RTL515 is a Garmin radar that connects the bicycle and smartphone with the aim of notifying vehicles approaching from behind. The design of this model is compact and elegant; its vertical position allows the best placement of the legs, allowing comfortable handling. Its rear radar offers multiple viewing options.

This product is eye on your back. During my 2-5h long triathlon bike trainings in Hungary it haves me safety on my TT bike. In peloton rides, more rider can pair the same radar with their computers at the same time. Cool stuff! Must have accessory just right after the helmet.

At first the acoustic warning of an approaching vehicle was annoying for him (in sections of the city it is continuous), but once this type of warning is deactivated, it is a very useful tool to gain the maximum possible safety on the road. Works perfectly. I use it on the gravel bike and it recognizes cars coming from behind perfectly. So I know what's going on behind me without turning around. It doesn't save you from looking over your shoulder when turning, which is still necessary. Overall, driving is much more relaxed than without the device. In the woods there are sometimes beeps out of boredom, but these are immediately recognized by the frequency as not coming from cars. I use the device with a Bluetooth headset in my right ear and my cell phone in my pocket. I don't need the display, the acoustic signals are enough for me..

As others have said though, doesn’t work as great in densely populated areas but that’s no fault of the Varia, the data is too complex for on the fly measurements with the current tech available. Next Best Thing To a Rear View Mirror.

I have always ridden with a rear view mirror, but really wanted a secondary method of alerting me to approaching traffic. I initially purchased an RTL510, which has been indispensable for approaching traffic which isn't obvious in a mirror. I since discovered that the 510 doesn't work with a smartphone, so I have purchased the RTL515, which works with Ride With GPS on a smartphone. Again, it does the job. I just wish Garmin had made it more obvious about the difference between 510 and 515.

A good safety product. You ride more relax knowing that the device will alert you when a car/truck is coming behind you before you can hear it coming. The ride is more focus on the ride rather than keeping looking behind to see if a car is coming or not. One other thing, when you turn your head to see if a car is coming (almost 180 degrees), often you also turn a bit the handles toward the middle of the road which is not secure but with the Varia RTL515 you don't need to do that anymore!

Absolutely awesome device to increase safety, an absolute device for road use! Even though I also own the Edge 1030 Plus, the Varia phone app adds even more usability. You can even listen to music while driving, the alarms come from the earbuds audibly among the music, so you’re not tied to a cycling computer. I specifically decided on the 515 version of this rear light, as it is significantly brighter than the 516. After switching it on for the first time, I was more than impressed by the brightness, so you are guaranteed not to be overlooked! The connection to my Garmin Edge 530 went without any problems and the light switches on automatically when the journey starts and you are reliably warned of vehicles approaching from behind. The StVO does not prescribe any brightness, it just mustn't blink, at least that's how it is in Austria. But I think that if you have permanent light you will not be controlled, so I don't worry about it.

After the first trips with the Garin RTL515, I am absolutely thrilled with it. Not only that the taillight performance is beyond any doubt, the radar function in connection with a Garmin Edge (for me a 1030) is particularly convincing. Every vehicle is reliably displayed. Unfortunately also when you ride on the bike path next to a street. But okay, you could quickly switch off the acoustic alarm. Otherwise an absolutely great product!

Really one of the best inventions if you love biking on the road. The Garmin RTL 515 always warns you when a car is approaching. It gives you a great sense of security as you can rely on the Radar to also start blinking as soon as the car gets closer. Together it increases your safety on the bike! I don´t go riding without it anymore!

I hate when fast driving cars pass me by close, but knowing when cars are coming is a great relief. I purchased the Varia Radar even though it is quite expensive comparing to a normal rear light. It was not a disappointment, the product has worked flawlessly. I´m very happy with the choice and glad that I paid for the peace of mind it gives me.

Super good extra safety on the roads. The lamp is strong and can be seen well during the day. Ideal if you are in a tempo position on roads that are sparsely trafficked as you can lie further towards the middle of the road without having to turn around all the time to see if a car is coming. In the city, it would be desirable if you got an indication on which side of me the car comes as you often have cars from both sides. Highly recommended and keep in mind that 515 is the one that flashes, 516 only has a steady light, otherwise it is the same lamp.

Great workmanship. Can be easily connected to the Garmin Egde 1030 plus. I haven't tried the remote control yet, but it shouldn't be a problem either. Functions not yet tested in practice. We soon. Highly recommended, unfortunately a bit expensive.

Simply "FUNDAMENTAL". If a person thinks about their safety as well as riding a bike this is a product they MUST have. It's expensive ? when it comes to safety, cost is not the element to be evaluated. Sometimes we spend hundreds of euros to have aesthetic bullshit or because they weigh 10 grams less than others. SAFETY HAS NO PRICE. Both for themselves and for others. It works very well, it signals correctly all the vehicles arriving well before you notice it from excellent noise and therefore also downhill. Really SUPER !!!

RTL515 is already my third radar from GARMIN, before that there were RTL501 and RTL510. I recommend it to anyone who cares about their safety. Being visible to cars and seeing the cars from behind is very important. The only drawback I found was the inability to charge and use the radar at the same time.

I'm excited. I never thought it would work so well. I use it with the Wahoo Element Bolt. Connection is established very quickly. With the bar on the display you are always informed whether it is doing its job. Battery life is very good. Even when driving for 5 hours, there are still 70% in the battery. The best, all vehicles are reliably recognized. Multiple vehicles also seem to be no problem for the device.
