Hello, what is the difference between north and south hemisphere orientation? From Germany you then North or?

Yes, for use in Europe you want Northern Hemisphere compensated compass. It is to do with the weighting of the needle for use above and below the equator. Above the equator the ´north´ end of the needle gets pulled down by the earth´s magnetic field, below the equator, the ´south´ end gets pulled down. Compass manufacturers therefore weight the ´south´ end of the needle for northern hemisphere use, and weight the north end for southern hemisphere use to keep it balanced on the pivot point. The compass will still work in the ´wrong´ hemisphere, but the needle may drag against the face plate causing it to be less responsive and accurate.
