This is how the 3-stripes brand presents to us their adidas 4DFWD running shoes, a high-end product that seeks to provide an alternative to its higher performance foams for speed and endurance races. With a lightweight, minimalist silhouette and a groundbreaking sole unit, this is the German brand´s future showcase.
Thanks to a close collaboration with the American 3D printing and technology company Carbon, the 4DFWD has the world´s first 3D printed midsole: the FWD Cell. Designed to compress and expand based on tread dynamic statistics, this midsole transforms gait vertical pressure into forwarding momentum that will keep you at the front of the pack. As if that weren´t enough, the rubber outsole - with an ultra-flexible diamond pattern reminiscent of Stretchweb - produces highly competent traction on asphalt and urban surfaces.
But the innovations don´t stop at the sole unit. The 4DFWD’s upper also gets a new material: PRIMEKNIT+ is a flexible mesh that adapts anatomically to the shape of the foot and provides phenomenal breathability in all conditions. This sock-like support is coupled with an efficient lace closure that wraps itself around the midfoot for stability and support.

The lattice structure is angled to redirect the energy of every footstrike into forward motion.
