Review Suunto Race 2

Dato 08/12/2025

Last Saturday, October 18th, I ran the Bisaura Trail half marathon, a demanding race that combines technical trails, fast sections, and climbs that test both your legs and your mind. It was my first race using the new Suunto Race 2, after many months of training and competing with the Suunto Race S, and I can say without a doubt that the difference is noticeable from the very first moment.

cabecera

First impressions: lightness and fluidity

At first glance, the Suunto Race 2 maintains the essence of the Race range, but everything feels smoother. From the moment you turn it on, the software response is immediate. Menus scroll seamlessly, screens load faster, and the impact of the new processor is noticeable both in everyday use and during races, when you switch screens looking for pace or altitude data without missing a beat.

Compared to the Suunto Race S, which was already a very capable watch, the leap in performance is obvious. The Race S sometimes had a slight delay when interacting with the map or opening certain functions; in the Race 2, that has completely disappeared. Everything is smooth, precise, and natural, making the user experience more enjoyable and, above all, more efficient when you´re on the go.

Screen and visibility: the big change

One of the aspects that surprised me most is the AMOLED screen of the Suunto Race 2. On the Bisaura Trail, we encountered areas of dense forest with constant shade, as well as others completely open to the sun. In both situations, visibility was perfect. The colors appear more vibrant, and the automatic brightness responds with great precision. The screen on the Race S was good, but this new version takes it a step forward: viewing the map, the altitude profile, or the pace in real time has never been so convenient.

Maps and navigation: more detail, more confidence

In a race like the Bisaura Trail, with its forks in the path and narrow trails, map navigation is key. Here, the Race 2 shines. Map loading is much faster, scrolling is smooth, and the GPS accuracy (with multiband) is outstanding. I never had any doubts about the route, even in wooded areas where other watches often lose signal. Furthermore, topographical details are much clearer thanks to the screen´s contrast and resolution.

Autonomy and reliability

With performance mode activated and medium brightness, the watch easily lasted the entire race, with barely any noticeable battery drain. The Race 2´s battery life is an improvement over the Race S , especially thanks to processor optimization and smarter power management. It´s a watch designed for long runs and demanding training sessions without the worry of daily charging.

Overall experience: a watch that accompanies

Throughout the entire race, the Suunto Race 2 felt like a natural extension of my training. The information was always clear, the route tracking was flawless, and the synchronization with the app was instantaneous afterward. Furthermore, the new design maintains the balance between robustness and comfort that characterizes Suunto: secure on the wrist without feeling heavy.

Conclusion

The Suunto Race 2 isn´t just an update; it´s a significant step forward. It retains the spirit of the Race S but improves upon it in all the aspects that truly matter to trail runners: smoothness, visibility, navigation, and reliability.

After the Bisaura Trail, I´m certain that this watch doesn´t just record the experience: it amplifies it. It allows you to focus on running, enjoy yourself, and have complete confidence in the device you´re wearing.

If you´re coming from the Race S and don´t mind upgrading to something larger, the leap with the Race 2 will feel enormous. It´s a watch that gives the impression that Suunto has listened to runners and created a more precise, agile, and responsive tool.
