Adapt quickly to changes and climb higher than ever with the Osprey Mutant 38L backpack. Designed in collaboration with mountain guides and climbing practitioners, this lightweight, versatile backpack will ease your contact with the wilderness in either weekend or multi-day trips.

Made of high-tenacity 210D nylon, the Mutant 38L’s durability and weather resistance are absolute. Its snowshed fabric backpanel allows greater air circulation through your back and keeps you cool when in warm heights. Its preformed harness - which includes chest and lumbar straps, the latter of which is removable - ensures that your load remains balanced on your torso.

In its front panel, the Mutant 38L includes dual ToolLock™ bungees for carrying ice picks and other mountaineering tools, as well as additional loops on the sides for using compression cords or attaching other gear. This model also includes a LidLock helmet carry™ fully compatible with its integrated raincover. The Mutant 38L also includes an internal hydration pocket for carrying up to 3L reservoirs, as well as a zippered mesh pocket under its lid for carrying small objects. Designed for fast summer climbs or winter peaks, the Mutant will be at your back wherever you go.

During cold weather ascents, you will appreciate its back panel with protective anti-snow fabric, the side straps to carry the skis and the Dual ToolLock ™ system, which allows you to adjust the ice axes quickly and safely.

If you are wearing the harness, you can retract the hipbelt or, if you prefer, remove it.

The Mutant main access is at the top with a zipper on the opposite side, meaning you can load the backpack like a bucket designed to gobble up material.

It has a top compression strap under the cap that can be adjusted outward to secure the rope.

Under the lid is a mesh pocket to store keys and essentials.

Excellent backpack

Purchased for occasions, when I need bigger pack. It's simple and lightweight, but it has funcional design to attach ice picks or poles, helmet and rope... Love it

The order has arrived in the established time even now that we are with the confinement, good sales service. On the backpack, my boy has the previous model to this one and it has lasted without deforming for almost 15 years. We think it is a good choice, especially that it adapts very well to the back.

An all around climbing backpack. Designed for winter conditions. You can fit a winter sleeping bag and a bivou, some extra clothes, water, add a rope between the top cover and backpack, attach two ice axes on the outside, plus a shovel. Pros -Every outer fabric is well thought out and durable -Carry straps are as always super steady and comfortable -Straps for the equipment are performing really well. -The bag can carry too much weight for its size and still be comfortable. No unnecessary straps or zip. -Nice carry mods on the waist straps, ideal for climbing. -its really light Cons - I would like some modification on the fabric of the back panel. It can easily get wet from the conditions and it never dries since the moisture gets trapped between that and your bag, -If the ax system can get a bit loose.
