Easy carrying for heavy loads – a fully-adjustable 42-litre backpack for multi-day alpine trekking with expandable volume of 5-litre.Sassolungo and Puez-Odle, Marmolada and Pale di San Martino… The ‘Dolomiti’ offer a lifetime of exploration. Designed for long-distance use, the Alptrek 42 is a comfortable trekking pack made of lightweight, very abrasion-resistant nylon with a fully-adjustable carrying system and a 42-litre capacity. You also have the option to add an extra five litres of volume via the height-adjustable lid compartment that doubles up as a detachable carry bag. Our easy-adjust Dry Back Custom carrying system has an adjustable back length plus anatomically-shaped, padded shoulder straps and hipbelt for an individualised fit. In addition, load lifter straps ensure optimal back fit over long distances, while the pre-shaped hipfin guarantees a snug fit and good load transfer to your hips. Large storage pockets provide plenty of room for spare clothing or your tent poles and there’s dual (front and top) access to the main compartment for fast and easy gear retrieval. And for rapid access to important items en route, the on-the-go pockets are easy to reach without having to remove the pack from your back. This pack is compatible with the Salewa flask holder. Backpack includes also waterproof cover stored in a bottom of pack which is great advantage. On top of all these you can easily place the helmet and axe to the backpack and also skis can be carried pretty well. Only issue I recognize is that in case of having ,a bottle of water in a side mesh pocket, you probably will not be able to pack the skis or you have to use a force, which could possibly damage the mesh pockets.

Very comfortable backpack, especially for someone with a height (1.96 meters), but I will not take the backpack on such a long trip anymore. I was hiking through the Highlands for three weeks and despite the fact that I had very little with me, I found it just a bit too small. The compartment for the sleeping bag (bottom compartment) is too small, is very crammed. The rain cover that is included works reasonably well, but if you have your water bottles in the side pockets of the backpack, the rain cover does not close properly. And if the backpack is well filled, which is not difficult with this size, the zippers on the side of the bag will open. The flaps over the zippers then no longer provide protection and water still enters. In short, a nice backpack, but certainly not for long solo hikes where you have quite a bit of stuff with you. For the sake of completeness, the weight with gear and without water was around 10 kg.
