Instinct SR is a Scarpa climbing shoe for men specially created for climbing with the help of a complement that offers the necessary support from various points. The structure of this version includes the possibility of hooking the toes and heels, which is one of the main characteristics of the brand´s Instinct bundle.
One of the characteristics of this shoe for climbers is that it includes a rubber cover over the area of the fingers that allows a powerful grip. Its upper design includes 5-panel microfiber fabric that adjusts to the shape of your foot and is reinforced through an elastic closure.
In the lower part you will find that it includes a complete M50 rubber that contributes to your hitch, preventing you from skidding.
High performance and versatility are the universal characteristics of the Instinct line. Climbers that seek a versatile shoe that performs on all angles as well as varied footholds will appreciate these shoes with their balanced midsoles and active tension systems. Hooking with both the toes and especially the heels are strengths of the Instinct line. The Instinct SR is designed with indoor climbing in mind. The large rubber cover above the toe area enables powerful toe-hooking. Integral heel cup for sensitive heel-hooking, slightly asymmetrical and downturned shape, with a medium angled toe box. 5 panel microfiber upper, REB reinforced elastic closure with seamless big toe panel and seamless four-toe panel for the best custom moulding fit. Full Ultra-sticky M50 rubber on the top of the toes for top-level hooking.
Specifications:
- Rand: Bi-Tension
- Sole: XS Grip2 3.5mm
- Last: FV
- Upper: Microfiber
Technology:
Instinct Upper:
- Microfiber and leather combination 5-panel upper with seamless big toe panel and seamless four toe panel allows custom moulding and helps maintain form and comfort with forward drive into the toe box.
Instinct Midsole:
- Half-length Flexan 1.0mm insert spreads the force in the forefoot and allows for excellent flexibility in the rear of the shoe.
Bi Tension:
- Basically, a reverse slingshot rand thats anchored under the critical toe area and connects directly to the heel rand, only theres nothing basic about it. The patent-pending system actively pulls power from the toes, rather than cramming your toes painfully forward, giving immediate performance with less tension. And that means less rubber, making your shoes lighter, more sensitive and more reactive.
Instinct Sole:
- 3.5mm ¾ XS Grip 2 sole. M50 rubber heel construction for high friction hooking performance.

Excellent shoe. Got it fast.
Great semi-soft slipper
Sej - 29/12/2020
got them as a gift. this is a lower volume shoe compared with the other men’s shoes in the instinct family. the fj last of the sr slipper feels snugger, especially in the heel cup and the toe box than the fv last of the other instincts. this means that, if sized appropriately, i.e., within 0-5 mm of your mondopoint or actual foot length, your toes are going to be more scrunched up relative to the same size in the instinct vs for example. given the copious amount of m50 rubber at the top of the toe-box, apart from good toe-hooking ability, this might mean more toe knuckle chafing and big toe hot spots than expected. alright if you are used to that, but it will take some getting used to if you have not had this experience before, e.g., if you have only been wearing flat or beginner shoes. other reviews mention that the fit is closer to the instinct vs women’s (or instinct vsw) which is expected since the vsw is constructed atop the fjw last. so, for those who love the instinct vs/vsr/lace but have dead space in the heel, the sr slipper might just be the answer. and for those who are already very snug in the vs/vsr/lace, half a size up might be recommended, or get ready for a surprise. the elasticated rubber at the top of the shoe does a good job of keeping tension on the instep/midfoot and pushing your foot firmly into the shoe. having ,to take the slipper on and off frequently, however, requires the heel to be deformed again and again. and as others have noted, this can cause the heel to bag out. while the impact may only be psychological, climbers who love the feel of a vacuum fit in the heel cup may come away wanting after some months of regular use. this is the case for all slippers though. the toe box suits people with medium to wide forefeet and whose second toe is a little longer than their big toe. the grip 2 rubber has that sticky quality that i love, good for both edging and smearing, especially given the fact that the grip 2 outsole runs back to the bottom of the mid-foot, unlike the other instincts, providing better overall support for edging and more surface area for smearing or for perching on volumes. overall, the sr is a thoughtful and well-constructed shoe. an all-rounder that’s on the softer side. probably the softest of the non-scarpa-soft-line-shoes, i.e., drago, chimera, veloce, and furia (these are softer). but its features are mostly replicated in the other instinct shoes. so, it probably only makes sense to get them over the vs/vsr/lace if (1) you like the slipper closure system; (2) you like your toes to be in a more aggressive position; (3) you find the vs/vsr/lace baggy in the heel; (4) you want the cheapest shoe in the instinct family. if you do decide to get them, you will likely not be disappointed (unless you use heels like you do opposable thumbs).
