Quim Garzón tells us about his experience with the Altra Mont Blanc

cabecera

Welcome to the birth of the new Altra Mont Blanc. The American brand has created a true trail running racing cushion, for long distance running at a high pace and with a lightweight feel. For those who are used to "natural running", who are looking for maximum performance over long distances, especially in competitions on non-extreme terrains.

This is a very minimalist racing shoe with a weight of only 280 g in men's model and 197 g in women's model (size 11 USA). At first sight they remind us of the Altra Olympus, but they are much more radical. For the runner who wants this feeling of comfort and cushioning, but prefers a much lighter shoe for fast running and likes the Altra philosophy with a wide toe box and the famous 0 drop.

Outsole and midsole:

The Altra EGO™ MAX midsole compound provides perfect underfoot comfort, no matter how many hours you wear the shoes, it has the necessary support for all types of terrain without excessive technical difficulties.

Comfort is guaranteed with the midsole and above all the use of the Vibram™ Megagrip LiteBase compound gives these shoes a great versatility, suitable for almost all types of terrain. No matter dry or wet, except for muddy areas (they are not designed for these situations) and very technical areas.

In the forefoot area of the sole, the Vibram™ Megagrip LiteBase adopts linear stripes, five in total, replicating the direction of the metatarsals to favour the foot's natural stride. The outsole, both front and rear, features a low-profile and very regular lug distribution.

Upper:

It stands out for its minimalist upper, which is very light and flexible following the competition DNA. In the front part the last is the Standard Foodshape™ Fit, keeping the characteristic design of Altra's last, it has this mythical width in the front area to have good comfort and expand the toes without any problem. Ideal for runners with wide feet, thus having a very good support.

In the collar area, it is padded on the sides to give us this comfort under the heel, as this part of the shoe is very soft and flexible. As accessories, in the heel area we find the Velcro fastening for the gaiters, a classic of the brand. The tongue is very thin, it barely has a very light padding in the central area just where the laces cross.

Final conclusions:

I have tested these shoes on very different terrains doing very varied workouts on compact, greasy and technical terrains. The first few outings took some getting used to as, if you don't adjust the tongue well, it can be a slight discomfort with the round laces due to the fact that it is made of a very thin fabric that wraps the foot. Going down fast on technical terrain I would have felt more comfortable with more structure in the upper, and more protection.

On the right terrain I had a new feeling that I have never had before with any other shoe, running fast while being very very comfortable. The shoe invites you to run for hours and hours in the mountains without any wear and tear on your feet. It is ideal for open terrain and wide trails as it gives you the feeling of flying and wearing a very light shoe, very reactive and not absorbing a lot of impact, giving energy back when you need it.
