Asics Gel-Trabuco 13 Review

Data 09/04/2025

Having used several previous versions of the Trabuco, I can say that they remain true to their spirit: a shoe designed to inspire confidence on demanding terrain, but now with clear improvements in cushioning and fit.

cabecera

Cushioning and comfort

One of the most notable differences compared to previous models is the new midsole compound: FF BLAST PLUS ECO. It feels lighter and offers better energy return, but without losing that firm stride that has always characterized the Trabuco. This is especially appreciated on long rides, when your legs begin to complain. They´ve also slightly increased the height of the sole, which helps to better filter impacts without becoming unstable. The drop remains at 8 mm, very balanced.

Stability and protection

If I liked anything about the previous Trabucos, it was the feeling of security on downhill runs, and this version maintains that—I´d even say it´s improved. The structure stabilizes the foot well, and the rock plate does its job without adding stiffness. It´s still a "tank" shoe, but with a touch more agility. The toe box is reinforced and the foot feels well supported, something I noticed especially on broken or steep trails.

Sole and grip

Asics has fine-tuned this shoe very well. The ASICSGRIP outsole offers excellent traction, even on wet rock or compacted mud. The lugs have changed compared to previous versions: they´re now more aggressive and multidirectional, which is noticeable on technical climbs and braking on descents. Personally, I´ve noticed more confidence on varied terrain without having to constantly correct my footing.

Upper and fit

In older models, the upper may have felt a little stiff at first. That´s changed with the Trabuco 13. The fabric is more flexible, still durable, and breathability has improved. The foot feels snug without being too tight, and the reinforcements are where they should be. I feel like it adapts better to the natural movement of the foot.

As with previous versions, there´s a version with a GORE-TEX™ membrane, ideal for those training in wet or cold climates. The fit and overall performance remain the same, but with the added benefit of keeping your foot dry when the terrain gets really rough.

Conclusion

The Trabuco 13 is, in my opinion, a logical and successful evolution of an already reliable shoe. It remains a safe bet for runners who prioritize stability, protection, and grip on long runs or technical terrain. It´s not an ultralight-feeling shoe, but if you´re coming from previous models or looking for a durable and comfortable companion for all types of trails, it´s hard to go wrong.
