Bca Extended Column Test Cord

BCA Extended Column Test Cord

Elevate your snowpack evaluation and make more informed decisions in avalanche terrain with the BCA Extended Column Test Cord, a crucial addition to the Protections and Avalanche Safety lineup. Designed for backcountry professionals and serious recreationalists alike, this specialized tool is engineered to provide clear, reliable results when assessing snowpack stability. Understanding the potential for fracture propagation within the snow is a cornerstone of safe backcountry travel, and this cord is the purpose-built solution for performing an accurate Extended Column Test (ECT).

Essential for Informed Backcountry Decisions

When you´re deep in the mountains, confidence in your snowpack analysis is paramount. The BCA Extended Column Test Cord empowers you to gain deeper insights into the snow structure, helping you identify persistent weak layers and assess their propensity to propagate a fracture. This lightweight and highly packable cord removes the guesswork and inconsistency of using a ski or snowboard to isolate a column, ensuring a cleaner test and more dependable feedback from the snow itself. Its efficiency saves you valuable time and energy in the field, allowing for more frequent and thorough testing as conditions change.

Innovative Design for Accurate Snowpack Analysis

A new addition to our snow study tools, this two-meter cord has knots every 10 inches (25 cm), and two swaged aluminum teeth at the center to cut through snow and crust when performing an extended column test. Handles on each end provide grip while sawing. The unique design with centrally-located cutting teeth focuses the sawing power exactly where it´s needed, allowing you to effortlessly slice through even the most challenging layers, including dense wind slabs and stubborn icy crusts. This smooth, efficient cutting action creates a perfectly isolated snow column, which is fundamental for observing how a fracture travels across a weak layer during the test. The integrated knots act as a quick visual guide for measuring the standard 90 cm width of the column, ensuring you adhere to proper testing procedures for consistent and comparable results every time.

Engineered for the Backcountry User

Every feature of the BCA ECT Cord is thoughtfully designed for practical use in harsh winter environments. The reinforced handles provide a secure, comfortable grip even with gloves on, enabling a powerful and controlled sawing motion. Its minimal weight and compact size mean it takes up negligible space and adds very little weight to your pack, making it a non-negotiable piece of equipment for every tour. For any skier, splitboarder, or snowmobiler dedicated to advancing their avalanche safety practices, this cord is an indispensable component of a complete snow study kit, standing alongside your shovel, probe, and beacon.
