Is it important not to have the V-shaped space between the thumb and index finger?

Since these gloves don´t have that V-shaped space between the index finger and thumb, I´d like to know if that affects their durability and makes them more prone to tearing on that side compared to gloves that do have that space.

My son wears these as his practice gloves. The edges are a little ragged-looking where the lines are raised, but the palm and thumb surfaces aren’t any more worn than his Aquagrips, which do have the v.
