Salewa Lightning 240 probe

SALEWA Lightning 240 Probe

In the unpredictable backcountry, where conditions can change in an instant, having reliable and fast-acting safety equipment is not an option—it´s a necessity. The SALEWA Lightning 240 Probe is a cornerstone of any comprehensive avalanche safety kit, engineered for speed, accuracy, and unwavering performance when it matters most.

Rapid avalanche rescue is critical. The SALEWA Lightning 240 probe ensures fast, reliable performance with its intuitive 6-section design. Oversized light alloy sections provide exceptional stiffness, while pull grips and automatic latching enable swift, one-pull assembly, even with gloves. A teardrop tip enhances penetration and sensitivity, and 5cm markings offer precise depth assessment. Compact and lightweight, it´s essential gear for backcountry enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on safety.

Designed for high-stress situations, the Lightning 240 prioritizes immediate deployment. The intelligent design featuring ergonomic pull grips and an automatic latching system allows for instantaneous, single-pull assembly. This means you can have the probe fully extended and locked in seconds, without fumbling or needing to remove your gloves in frigid conditions. This efficiency saves precious time, a critical factor in a successful rescue scenario.

Probing accuracy is just as crucial as speed. The oversized diameter of the light alloy sections delivers exceptional stiffness and rigidity along the probe´s entire 240 cm length. This robust construction is vital as it prevents the probe from deflecting or bending when encountering dense, compacted avalanche debris. A straighter probe path ensures a more efficient and systematic search pattern, increasing the likelihood of a quick and accurate strike.

The specialized teardrop-shaped tip is engineered to enhance both penetration and sensitivity. It cuts through hard snow layers and ice crusts with minimal friction, allowing for easier probing and reducing user fatigue. More importantly, it transmits clearer tactile feedback to the rescuer´s hands, helping to distinguish between snow, ground, and a buried victim. For strategic digging, the clear and durable 5cm depth markings provide a precise burial depth reading, allowing you to accurately communicate vital information to your team and begin excavating effectively.

Despite its robust build and extended length, the SALEWA Lightning 240 is designed to be compact and lightweight, making it an essential, barely-noticeable addition to your pack. It folds down neatly and fits seamlessly into any dedicated avalanche safety backpack, ensuring you are always prepared without being weighed down on the ascent.
