Necrocatalanomicón is an ultra-apocalyptic, crude, and aberrant essay, although illuminated by flashes of pure genius, about Catalan society and culture.

It´s fucking hilarious.

Even dangerously funny.

In his native Catalonia, Valero is a beloved figure by many, but hated to death by many, many more.

But the one who is most hurt by this book is Valero himself.

What more would he have wanted than to not have this clairvoyance and this mission, to illuminate a land that doesn´t question the appropriateness of choosing a donkey as a national symbol (a donkey, a fucking donkey), or that doesn´t even consider if there is a little too much friction when it comes to lifting the castellers.

And yes, this book is a brutally satirical and ruthless portrayal of Catalans, but also a love letter to them.

Because exorcising collective demons in a coven of laughter and revivifying hatred is something very hygienic and necessary for any society.

I wish there was a Valero Sanmartí in every town.
