Art & Beauty Magazine: A Journey Through Two Decades of Robert Crumb´s Art

The first issue of Art & Beauty Magazine appeared in 1996, taking Robert Crumb´s followers by surprise. Within its pages, he seemed to parody art history while simultaneously saluting its legacy.

A second installment in 2003 confirmed the audacity of the project, and the third issue was completed in 2016, finally seeing the light of day as part of this volume that now encompasses two decades of work.

Whether live or recorded, from life or through photographs, Robert Crumb captures in these pages the aspect of reality that concerns him most.

Art & Beauty is a compendium of aesthetic excellence where the best draftsman of our era dynamites the established canons of female beauty.

To speak of Robert Crumb (Philadelphia, 1943) is to speak of one of the most influential authors of modernity.

His bibliography abounds with classic characters like Fritz the Cat, titanic projects like an adaptation of the biblical Genesis, romantic delights like The Big Yum Yum Book, and four-handed marital games like Tell Me About Love!, in collaboration with his wife Aline Kominsky-Crumb.

Since the 1960s, when he began to show a supernatural talent for drawing that would soon establish him as a pope of the North American underground, Crumb has not stopped delivering an endless stream of pages where irreverent comedy, neurotic fury, and existential angst work together for an autobiography in constant construction.

Today, his work has transcended the realm of comics and is recognized by authors of all disciplines. Modern art museums pay homage to him, and his incorruptible personality even gave rise to a documentary film produced by David Lynch that bore his name.

He currently lives with his family in the south of France, surrounded by a splendid collection of vinyl records
