How does it work.

4 of the 8 auto-negotiating RJ45 ports (port 1 to 4) on the switch support Power over Ethernet (PoE) mode.

These PoE ports automatically detect the presence of PoE devices that support the IEEE 802.3af standard and supply power to them.

With PoE technology, electrical energy is transmitted along with data through a single cable, which allows the network to be carried to those points where electrical connections or outlets are not available.

In this way, you can permanently install devices such as access points, IP cameras, IP phones, etc.

Overload protection.

The TL-SG1008P has a priority function that helps protect the equipment when a system power overload occurs.

If the power consumption of all PoE devices is greater than or equal to 53 W, a power priority is established between the PoE ports based on which the device interrupts power to the port with the lowest priority.

Port priority function.

Priority (port 1 > port 2 > port 3 > port 4):This function helps you protect the system if an overload occurs.

For example, ports 1, 2, and 4 are using 15.4 W (maximum power per port is 15.4 W), so the system supply is 46.2 W total (the LED labeled PoE max lights up red).

If an additional PoE device that consumes 10W is connected to port 3, the computer turns off the power to port 4 to protect itself.

This way, ports 1 and 2 will consume 15.4W, port 3 will use 10W, and no power will be supplied to port 4.
