firstly you need to know i have taken time to consider what would be the best skates for me. i've asked many people and facebook groups for their opinions, because due to covid i've not been able to visit a skate shop to try on skates and discover the best fit for me as i have awkwardly wide feet. i've discovered that i like skating later in life (41) and i've been using cheap second hand sfr brooklyn skates to learn without spending a while lot of money. i had switched out the bearings for some abec 7 to get me rolling smoother and i thought that was about as good as it could get. well, it's christmas and so i decided that i love this sport, so i'll get myself some new quality skates that will help me progress. the rollerblade rb80's were the skates that most recommended for people with wide feet and when i heard of someone skating 25k and another skating over 100 miles in a day in them i figured they must be comfortable. i chose the rb80 pro x because they were a fair price and fitted what i need. when they arrived i excitedly put them on to find that they were tight and i could feel them pinching at my ankles and at the tops of my feet, i pulled out the liners and tried them on on their own and whilst it was better they still weren't great. i checked that the skates and liners were definitely the correct size. i measured my feet to check against the size chart and everything was as it recommended. i was upset, thinking i'd have to return them, then i remembered reviews, and comments of people saying about breaking them in like a new pair of shoes, so i wore the liners and skates around the house for a few hours in total over 2 days. on the third day i decided to skate in them, thinking i'd maybe be able to do an hour before being in pain and having ,to come home; this is where the surprised began. whilst they were tight to put on, they were insanely comfortable to skate in, my feet were held securely which gave me confidence to try new moves which i had previously felt nervous about (powerslides, scissored turns and going backwards). the speed the skates were going at was in a different league to what was used to, the combination of the bearings and supreme wheels is awesome! before i knew it i had been skating faster, lower, at sharper angles, breaking harder and faster and all of this in total comfort for 2 hours! i only stopped to go and pick up my daughter. i thought that maybe once i took the skates off i might have some sores and again i was surprised, i had nothing. no sores, no marks, no blisters, my feet were more comfortable than they've even been after 2 hours of skating! i could've easily gone back and skated more. if you buy these skates and they feel tight at first be sure to wear them around the house to help break them in and then i'm confident once you skate in them you'll be impressed. they've given me more confidence and comfort and will help me develop into a better skater. thank you rollerblade!
