Copa Poland 1970 Short Sleeve T-Shirt

The appointment of Kazimierz Górski as Polands international manager in 1970 set in motion a miracle decade for a national team that had previously been on the fringes of the international game. The turn around in fortunes was rapid and helped enormously by the development of a new generation of players whose talent was the equal of any across the continent. Poland took gold medal at the 1972 Olympics and reached their first World Cup two years later eliminating England in the qualifiers.

Absent through injury was the national teams main striking inspiration Wlodzimierz Lubanski, but the giant forward Andrzej Szarmach proved a capable replacement in tandem with the brilliant wingers Robert Gadocha and Grzegorz Lato and the vision and creativity in midfield of Kazimierz Deyna.

A win against West Germany would have seen the Poles through to the World Cup Final but their natural passing game was affected by the torrential rain which made conditions impossible. Poland gained some consolation by securing an admirable third place overall with victory over Brazil.
