Carga Vital by CASCABORRA EDICIONES | A Landmark Historical Graphic Novel

Embark on an unforgettable journey into one of history´s most astounding and overlooked humanitarian missions. CASCABORRA EDICIONES, a publisher renowned for its dedication to historical accuracy, presents "Carga Vital," a powerful graphic novel that brings to life a story of science, sacrifice, and global impact that has remained in the shadows for too long. This is your opportunity to experience a pivotal moment in human history through a visually compelling and emotionally resonant narrative.

"Carga Vital" chronicles the epic feat of enormous global significance: The Royal Philanthropic Vaccine Expedition.

In 1803, this groundbreaking mission departed from La Coruña towards the Canary Islands with twenty-two children between the ages of three and nine, who served as living carriers of the precious smallpox vaccine. From there, they went to Spanish America, traveling (with successive subdivisions of the group) to Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile. The mission´s incredible reach did not stop there; they also took the vaccine to Asia, this time with the help of twenty-six Mexican children, passing through the Philippines, Macao, and Canton.

The expedition directly vaccinated, at the expense of the Spanish Public Treasury, about half a million people without discriminating by ethnicity, sex, age, or social class. Crucially, it also left behind an operational permanent healthcare network to guarantee the continuity of vaccinations. "Carga Vital" masterfully captures this extraordinary endeavor, a mission as risky and ambitious for its time as it is, incomprehensibly, little known and valued. This graphic novel is an essential tribute to the brave adults and children who changed the world.
