The 35mm full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor features a 24.2 effective megapixel count, back-illuminated structure, and gapless on-chip lens design to deliver extraordinary sensitivity and dynamic range.

The copper wiring and enhanced scale integration contribute to double the data readout speed.

DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED IMAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM.

The combination of the latest image processing system and innovative sensor achieves up to a 1.5-stop improvement in image quality.

The standard ISO range is extended to ISO 51200, and the dynamic range at low sensitivity settings is expanded to approximately 15 stops.

Enhanced detail reproduction and area-specific noise reduction effectively suppress noise while maintaining high overall resolution.

Colour reproduction, especially in skin tones and nature scenes, has also been dramatically improved.

The α7 III also supports 14-bit RAW output even during silent shooting/continuous shooting.

Phase-detection AF works even when an A-mount lens is attached to the α7 III via an LA-EA3 adapter.

The 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system provides wide coverage, fast response, and high tracking performance.

KEEPING EYES IN FOCUS.

Eye AF now supports AF-C mode with greater precision that dramatically improves portrait shooting, plus higher AF speed that makes it easier to capture portraits of moving subjects, even if they are looking down and away, or if they are backlit with part of their face in shadow.

The α7 III supports Eye AF for A-mount lenses mounted via an adapter.

AF-ON BUTTON AND MULTI-SELECTOR.

The new AF-ON button activates autofocus without having to half-press the shutter button, so you can concentrate better on the exact moment to trip the shutter and capture the shot.

A multi-selector lets you shift the focus point quickly and efficiently.

You can select and shift the focus point intuitively, so you won´t miss great chances to capture moving subjects.

TOTAL AF CUSTOMIZATION.

AF tracking sensitivity for still images is adjustable in five steps for subjects that tend to move out of the focus area.

AF points and AF area settings remain the same or change when switching between horizontal and vertical orientations, depending on the shooting situation.

AF area registration allows frequently used focus point settings to be memorized and assigned to custom buttons for quick and convenient one-touch recall when needed.

UP TO 10FPS WITH AF/AE TRACKING.

Thanks to newly refined shutter charge unit and image processing system, the α7 III can shoot continuously at up to 10fps with AF/AE tracking (up to 8fps with minimal display lag in live-view continuous shooting mode), allowing you to capture decisive moments with confidence even during fast-moving action.

Capture up to 177 JPEG (Standard) images, 89 compressed RAW images, or 40 uncompressed RAW images in a single continuous burst.

An electronic shutter allows for silent, vibration-free shooting of wildlife and other sensitive situations when even the slightest noise could mean missing the ideal shot.

ENHANCED CONTINUOUS SHOOTING OPERABILITY.

Images captured in continuous shooting mode can be displayed as groups, and these groups can be deleted or protected in one quick operation.

Furthermore, with increased buffer memory and compatibility with UHS-II media, the camera significantly streamlines the process of writing data to memory cards.

The Fn button and menu button can be operated to change settings immediately after continuous shooting, while data writing is in progress.

ANTI-FLICKER SHOOTING.

Flickering from fluorescent and artificial lighting is automatically detected and the shutter is timed to minimize its effect on still images.

This suppresses exposure and color anomalies at the top and bottom of images shot at high shutter speeds, as well as exposure and color inconsistencies between continuous shots, so you can shoot indoor sports or other scenes lit by artificial lighting with more confidence.

BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL, REALISTIC 4K MOVIES.

Full-frame 4K movies with full pixel readout and no pixel binning that condenses approximately 2.4 times the amount of data required for 4K video (QFHD:3840x2160) output minimizes moiré and jaggies.

Advanced image processing makes it possible to record full-frame 4K movies with outstanding image quality throughout the mid-to-high ISO range, making the most of the 4K format´s exceptional potential in every shotIt is also possible to select Super 35mm mode instead of full-frame mode if required.

SUITABLE FOR A WIDE RANGE OF HDR MOVIE PRODUCTION NEEDS.

Supporting a wide range of HDR movie production needs, the α7 III offers S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves, which offer wide dynamic range and flexibility for color grading in post-production.

Additionally, a new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile is available for instant HDR workflow.

However, color grading is not necessary to enjoy instant, high-quality HDR images directly on an HDR (HLG) compatible TV.

ADVANCED FAST HYBRID AUTOFOCUS FOR MOVIE RECORDING.

A combination of focal-plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF effectively tracks even fast-moving subjects and maintains smooth focus during movie recording.

The wide autofocus coverage area for movies extends to approximately 93% of the frame, and once the autofocus system locks onto a movie subject, it will steadfastly track the subject even if it moves around the frame.

Three AF drive speed settings allow you to fine-tune the focusing speed to match the pace of the scene being shot.

MY MENU AND NEW MENU INTERFACE.

My Menu allows up to 30 menu items to be registered and arranged in any order for instant recall, and unused items can be erased as necessary.

A custom menu can be created to suit specific shooting needs.

The α7 III´s main menus have been reorganized for easier navigation, with group names and page numbers displayed at the top of the screens.

CONVENIENT RATING FUNCTION FOR SORTING ON LOCATION.

Ratings from 1 to 5 stars can be applied to still images and maintained when the images are imported into PlayMemories Home or Sony´s new Imaging Edge software suite on a PCThis function, as well as another protect function to prevent accidental image deletion, can be assigned to a custom button (C3 by default for protect).

Ratings and protection can be applied via a playback review screen, and continuous groups can be reviewed, protected and deleted on the spot or on the move.

INSTANT CUSTOMIZATION SWITCHING.

Camera settings can be registered (up to two on the camera and four on a memory card) for quick access via the mode dial.

Up to 81 functions can be assigned to 11 custom keys, and sets of custom functions can even be assigned for stills, movies, and playback.

TOUCH LCD FOR INSTANT, INTUITIVE FOCUS OPERATION.

The 3.0-type LCD screen with 922k dots offers touch operation and bright, clear, detailed viewing even outdoors.

Use Touch Focus to instantly focus on a point you touch on the touchscreen, and the Touch Pad to drag the focus frame around the LCD screen with your fingertip while you monitor the shot through the viewfinder.

This LCD screen tilts upwards by as much as 107° and downwards by 41° for flexible and comfortable camera handling and shot monitoring.

5-AXIS IN-BODY IMAGE STABILIZATION WITH UP TO 5.0-STOP SHUTTER SPEED ADVANTAGE.
