We´ve finally perfected the power of steam, and now we can use it to our advantage. We live in an age of unprecedented progress, and new steam-powered inventions are developing faster than ever. Cities are growing, trade is flourishing, and we´re developing our most ambitious machine yet a giant contraption that will bring even more progress to the city.

Yes, some trees are being cut down, and the river isn´t flowing as much as it used to, but there´s still an abundance of vegetation and water, and we can use the extra space to expand our city. Who cares about those old legends about ancestral spirits these days. Designed by Dani García (author of great games like Barcelona and Arborea) and illustrated by Marina Vidal, Daitoshi can be enjoyed solo or in groups of up to 4 players, ages 14 and up, in games lasting about 2 hours. Players will compete to score the maximum number of victory points over a series of rounds. On your turn, you will either produce goods in your factory (and thus gain resources) or move your magnate to a new district on the central board to perform an action. These actions, however, will always impact the environment, damaging the subsoil, mountains, forests, or rivers. In return, you will hire new workers and can expand the city, electrify a district, trade with other cities, or obtain new patents to improve your factory and thus produce more in subsequent turns. These actions will not only help you in your quest for recognition (or, in other words, earn victory points to win), but they will also help all the inhabitants of the great city. You can even contribute to building a gigantic project, the mega machine.

Some forests may be cut down and some rivers may dry up, but in your generosity, you will help the displaced workers in those areas by providing them with new jobs in your service. Old legends suggest that the forests and rivers are guarded by Ykai, but progress cannot be halted due to some old fairy tales. However, just in case, it would be wise to participate in some reforestation projects and hide your involvement in the abuse of natural resources. Ideal for experienced players, Daitoshi is part of the Kemushi Saga, a thematic universe that encompasses several board games such as Bitoku, Bamboo, Sand, Yokai Sketch, and Silk. With evocative art, inspired by references such as Studio Ghibli films, the different games are like pieces of a large puzzle that, once assembled, tells a great story.
