Devir Mindbug Beyond: Evolution card game

The most amazing creatures in the universe… They have evolved. Centuries of mutation and experimentation have resulted in fearsome bugs that are ready to fight in epic, high-voltage strategic duels. This completely independent expansion of the original Mindbug game puts new tactics and combinations at our fingertips, with evolving creatures and powerful activation abilities.

The box includes more than 50 cards with creatures that can be played separately or combined with any other edition of the saga. As a novelty, this title incorporates creatures that can evolve after their activation, offering new abilities and more power to the players. Thus, after playing and activating the Lady of the Clouds, the card evolves first to the Typhoon Princess and then to the Thunder Queen; the same happens with the Penguin Recruit, which evolves to the Veteran Penguin first and then to the Fortified Glacier. In addition, among other cards, this box includes the Sensei Fox, the Goose, the Tororrail or the Balloon Fish. You never know what wonder of evolution will come into your hands. If Darwin raised his head...

As in the original Mindbug, you´ll have to be careful, because at any moment your opponent can use one of their Mindbugs to take control of your monsters. Co-designed by the legendary Richard Garfield, creator of the famous Magic: The Gathering and King of Tokyo, among many other games, Mindbug is a card game for two players, ages 8 and up, that allows games of between 15 and 25 minutes.

To start the game, all you have to do is shuffle and deal. Each player receives 5 cards, ready to play in hand, and 5 more that are set aside face down. This set of 10 cards forms the roster of creatures that you will send into battle in order to defeat your opponent. Next, each player draws three more cards face down that will serve as life point markers. Finally, each player draws two Mindbug cards.

On their turn, players can do one of the following: play a card or attack with a creature. If they choose the first option, they must play one of the cards from their hand to the play area. Then, the opponent must decide whether to use one of their Mindbugs. If they choose to do so, they take control of the creature and resolve its effects as if they had just played it from their hand. In exchange, the active player who has lost control of their card can play another turn. On the other hand, if the player decides to attack, they must choose one of the cards in the play area to fight. The opponent must select one of their creatures to block the blow or lose a life. If two monsters face off, the one with the highest power value wins. And if one of the players loses their 3 life points… the game ends.

The cards that make up the game have different abilities that adapt to infinite strategies. Frenzy allows a monster to attack twice, stealth makes it so that only other stealthy creatures can block it, hunters can attack their opponent´s cards... In a single game, both players only use 20 cards (10 each), so there will always be creatures left out and, therefore, the monster combinations will be unique and random in each duel.

Mindbug combines the accessibility and balance of a card game with the depth of a strategic card game. The result is a duel of skill with a touch of the bizarre that is unlike any other card game you´ve ever played.

Although it´s very easy to pick up and play, Mindbug will blow your mind with the amount of combos it offers. One of the game´s most unique mechanics allows you to control your opponent´s cards, so even the most experienced will have to adapt to each situation if they want to win. You don´t just play with your own 10 cards, you also play with your opponent´s. And it´s not enough to have the best cards... you have to know when to play them.
