As advertised, these shoes are great for both on and off-road running. I use them for light trails, where they work best, and also for easy hikes. The shoes are soft, with a good ground feel, so they are not the best for trails with sharp stones. I ordered size 39, which I normally wear in other running shoes, including other Altra models, and these are a bit tighter than what I am used to (but still OK with thin socks).
