Provides good protection against unwanted objects in the shoes. The hook in the front I think would have been tighter if it had been turned with the opening down towards the lacing instead of the other way around. Have not yet come loose but it feels like a risk when I run in terrain where the shoes disappear completely into the mud.

My ankle circumference is 23cm and I wear Altra size 44 shoes. I bought the large size, but it was very loose. If you wear short socks, the small size would be a better fit. This product is very stretchy, so shoe size doesn't matter, but ankle size is important. The circumference of the upper part of the large size is 21cm, but it slides down easily.

It´s not the circumference of the ankle that counts but the size of the shoe, so I recommend the L for a 44
