Product description of Asics Contend 9 PS running shoes

Description summary

Engineered for active young feet, the ASICS Contend 9 PS shoe combines durability with kid-friendly design. A hook and loop fastener ensures a stable, secure fit, while the reinforced toe and solid rubber outsole are built to withstand endless playtime. Kids will love the clever CUB MATCH™ sockliner, which uses a fun tiger graphic to help them tell left from right. Designed for comfort and effective shock absorption, this shoe is also a smarter choice for the planet, made with recycled materials and eco-friendly dyeing processes

The Contend™ 9 Pre-School shoe is designed for young feet. Each shoe in the collection features a hook and loop fastener that helps keep feet stabilized. Details like the toe reinforcement, toe rubber stitching, and solid rubber outsole increase durability and lengthen the shoe´s lifespan. Additionally, our CUB MATCH™ sockliner is printed with a tiger caricature that helps kids identify the right and left shoe.

Pronation:
Neutral:
- Foot Type: Normal size arches
- Push Off: There is even distribution from the front of the foot.
- Considered Injuries: Less likely due to effective shock absorption, but neutral runners are not immune to injury.
- How your foot contacts the ground: The foot lands on outside of the heel, then rolls inward (pronates) to absorb shock and support body weight.

Underpronation
- Foot Type: High arches
- Push Off: The pressure is on smaller toes on outside of foot.
- Considered Injuries: Plantar fasciitis, shin splints, ankle strain.
- How your foot contacts the ground: The outer side of the heel hits the ground at an increased angle with little or no normal pronation, causing a large transmission of shock through the lower leg.

Features:

- Hook and loop fastener belt
- CUB MATCH™ sockliner uses a tiger graphic to help kids recognize the left shoe from the right shoe
- The toe reinforcement, toe rubber stitching, and solid rubber outsole improve durability
- At least 20% of the shoe´s main upper material is made with recycled content to reduce waste and carbon emissions
- The sockliner is produced with the solution dyeing process that reduces water usage by approximately 33% and carbon emissions by approximately 45% compared to the conventional dyeing technology

The Active Kid

This user is always on the move, participating in school sports, playground games, and family outings. They need a shoe that can keep up with their high energy levels, providing comfort and support throughout the day without getting in their way.

This shoe is built for the active kid. The neutral support and 7 mm heel drop are designed for running, while the low-cut design allows for freedom of movement. The Velcro closure ensures a secure fit that they can adjust themselves, and the solid rubber outsole is ready for running and playing on asphalt.

The School and Playtime Coordinator

This buyer, often a parent or guardian, needs a versatile, everyday shoe for their child that can handle the transition from the classroom to the playground. They look for a single pair of shoes that is practical, supportive for daily wear, and resilient enough for active play.

The Contend 9 Ps fits this need perfectly. It's designed as a running shoe, providing the necessary cushioning and neutral support for active use. The solid rubber outsole is durable for asphalt playgrounds, and the hook-and-loop closure is practical for the school day. The upper also features recycled content, adding a thoughtful element to a practical purchase.

Competitive features

When choosing running shoes for active kids, durability, comfort, and ease of use are key factors. We're comparing the Asics Contend 9 PS Running Shoes for kids against several popular models from New Balance and Under Armour. While all these options are similarly priced, the Asics shoe stands out with its thoughtful, kid-friendly features and focus on durability for everyday play.

Where it excels

The Asics Contend 9 PS is specifically designed for durability with a reinforced toe and a solid rubber outsole, built to withstand the rigors of playtime. It features a clever CUB MATCH™ sockliner with a tiger graphic, which helps young children learn to put their shoes on the correct feet independently. The hook and loop fastener provides a secure and stable fit that is easy for kids to manage on their own. This shoe is made with recycled materials and uses an eco-friendly dyeing process, making it a more conscious choice.

Consider alternatives if...

While the Contend 9 PS is a great all-around shoe for play and casual running, those seeking shoes with specific branded cushioning technologies, like New Balance's Fresh Foam or FuelCell, might explore those alternatives for a different feel.

Verdict

The Asics Contend 9 PS is an excellent choice for a child's everyday active shoe. It prioritizes durability and practical, kid-friendly features over specific performance technologies found in other models. Its reinforced construction is built for longevity, and unique details like the CUB MATCH™ sockliner add real value for parents and children. For general use, comfort, and resilience during play, it's a very strong contender in its category.
