Product description of Asics Contend 9 PS running shoes

Description summary

Engineered for active young feet, the ASICS Contend 9 PS shoe combines durability with kid-friendly design. A hook and loop fastener ensures a stable, secure fit, while the reinforced toe and solid rubber outsole are built to withstand endless playtime. Kids will love the clever CUB MATCH™ sockliner, which uses a fun tiger graphic to help them tell left from right. Designed for comfort and effective shock absorption, this shoe is also a smarter choice for the planet, made with recycled materials and eco-friendly dyeing processes

The Contend™ 9 Pre-School shoe is designed for young feet. Each shoe in the collection features a hook and loop fastener that helps keep feet stabilized. Details like the toe reinforcement, toe rubber stitching, and solid rubber outsole increase durability and lengthen the shoe´s lifespan. Additionally, our CUB MATCH™ sockliner is printed with a tiger caricature that helps kids identify the right and left shoe.

Pronation:
Neutral:
- Foot Type: Normal size arches
- Push Off: There is even distribution from the front of the foot.
- Considered Injuries: Less likely due to effective shock absorption, but neutral runners are not immune to injury.
- How your foot contacts the ground: The foot lands on outside of the heel, then rolls inward (pronates) to absorb shock and support body weight.

Underpronation
- Foot Type: High arches
- Push Off: The pressure is on smaller toes on outside of foot.
- Considered Injuries: Plantar fasciitis, shin splints, ankle strain.
- How your foot contacts the ground: The outer side of the heel hits the ground at an increased angle with little or no normal pronation, causing a large transmission of shock through the lower leg.

Features:

- Hook and loop fastener belt
- CUB MATCH™ sockliner uses a tiger graphic to help kids recognize the left shoe from the right shoe
- The toe reinforcement, toe rubber stitching, and solid rubber outsole improve durability
- At least 20% of the shoe´s main upper material is made with recycled content to reduce waste and carbon emissions
- The sockliner is produced with the solution dyeing process that reduces water usage by approximately 33% and carbon emissions by approximately 45% compared to the conventional dyeing technology

Competitive features

When choosing running shoes for active kids, durability, comfort, and ease of use are key factors. We're comparing the Asics Contend 9 PS Running Shoes for kids against several popular models from Under Armour and New Balance. While all these shoes are similarly priced and designed for young feet, the Asics Contend 9 PS offers a unique combination of durability and kid-friendly features.

Where it excels

The Asics Contend 9 PS stands out with its focus on durability, featuring a reinforced toe and a solid rubber outsole designed to withstand frequent use during playtime. It includes a clever CUB MATCH™ sockliner with a tiger graphic, a unique feature that helps young children learn to put their shoes on the correct feet independently. This model incorporates eco-friendly elements, using recycled materials and a solution dyeing process for the sockliner, which appeals to environmentally-conscious families.

Consider alternatives if...

While the Asics shoe features a hook and loop fastener, families looking for different closure systems might prefer alternatives like the New Balance Fresh Foam 625, which uses a bungee lace system.

Verdict

The Asics Contend 9 PS is an excellent choice for a durable, everyday shoe for young, active children. Its thoughtful, kid-friendly features like the CUB MATCH™ sockliner and reinforced construction provide great value. While competitors from New Balance and Under Armour offer similar comfort and fit, the Contend 9's unique combination of durability and educational design makes it a strong contender for parents seeking a practical and long-lasting shoe.
