The history of Progrip begins in 1960, in Cassano Magnago´s ancient factory on Via Roma, Italy, where they began manufacturing sports products. Progrip joined the Chamber of Commerce in the same year and was founded by Mr. Francesco Assaghi, who owned the original company, Plastics Cassano, since 1925.
Plastics Cassano specialized in the manufacture of buffalo horn handlebar handles, which were later replaced by plastic knobs made of bakelite and acetate. The daily production capacity was approximately 1,000 pairs of knobs. Progrip now manufactures almost 200,000 pairs of knobs per day and exports 70% of its products worldwide.
In the following decades, Progrip expanded its product range to include Progrip motorcycle gloves, Progrip motorcycle clothing, masks, helmets, and accessories for various sports, such as motocross, skiing, and snowboarding. Progrip also invested in research and development and collaborated with surgeons and textile engineers to create a revolutionary product: the self-gripping mesh. The self-gripping mesh (Progrip TM, Sofradim Production, Trévoux, France) was introduced in 2006 as a synthetic prosthetic material for reinforcement of the abdominal wall in open inguinal hernia repair.
