Aequilibrium Top GTX is the lightweight, high-tech high-performance boot for fast mountaineering on mixed terrain and for use at medium altitude. State of the art technology, it is the perfect synthesis between lightweight, comfort and durability. Exceptional walkability thanks to the innovative construction of the Double Heel™: the very pronounced double rear block geometry increases the braking effect on the descent and allows a smoother rolling, reducing muscle fatigue. Durability and lightweight coexist in harmony thanks to the new outsole / midsole package with external Rubber Guard™ shell construction and internal foam material for accentuated cushioning and lightweight derived from less use of rubber layers. The shape is Ergonomic: enveloping and precise with TPU shells integrated in the toe and heel to reinforce the uppers. The 3D Flex System Evo™ directional joint with shaped malleolus and external fold lines allows better control of the support and perfect mobility of the ankle. I used this for winter hiking in the Lake District in the UK. Boot is comfortable the sole looks solid. However, it was slippy on wet rock, and traction was not the best on ice (although no boot does this well). I did notice some discomfort on the top of my foot after the full day, which is expected as I am yet to break into these fully. The gaiter zip does seem a bit fragile, so long term that would be a worry, but no issues in use currently. Boot was relatively warm, temperatures were around -11C in snow and I had no issues regarding my feet getting cold. Overall its a good shoe for light winter mountaineering, although I am not sure its worth the extra money vs the standard ST Aequilibrium, especially with a longer term concern with the performance of the zipper on the gaiter.

Spectacular boots, very hard soles and all of them waterproof. With your feet stuck in the snow, you don't even feel. Warm and waterproof, although they are quite tight at the top, as the zipper/zipper is very tight at the top of the boot. They take time to break and adjust the leg, and may cause shin pain in the early days. I advise you to buy it well in advance of its use for a correct adaptation to the foot and leg of each one.
