Discover the pinnacle of climbing safety and intuitive design with the MAMMUT Smart 2.0, the ideal belay device for both novice and experienced climbers seeking enhanced security without a steep learning curve. This device masterfully combines the familiar handling of a classic tube-style device with the advanced safety of assisted braking technology, offering unparalleled peace of mind at the crag or in the gym.

The core of the Smart 2.0’s design is its intelligent, responsive performance. Engineered for enhanced safety, it provides an additional layer of security by assisting the belayer in arresting a fall. This confidence-inspiring function works dynamically, engaging when needed to provide reliable support, allowing the belayer to maintain focus and control. The genius of the Smart 2.0 lies in its incredibly intuitive handling. It operates without any complex moving parts or levers, allowing you to belay based on your natural reflexes. This makes the transition from standard tubers seamless for seasoned climbers and simplifies the learning process for those new to the sport.

Performance extends beyond just safety. The device´s meticulously engineered geometry ensures exceptionally smooth rope handling. Feeding rope to a lead climber is fluid and effortless, minimizing the chance of frustrating short-roping. When it´s time to lower a climber, the Smart 2.0 provides excellent modulation and control, allowing for a smooth, steady descent. Its lightweight construction makes it an unobtrusive addition to any rack, perfect for everything from single-pitch sport routes to long days of multi-pitch adventure where every gram counts. Whether you are top-roping in the climbing hall or leading a challenging route outdoors, the Smart 2.0 adapts to your needs, providing reliable performance across a wide range of climbing disciplines.

Intuitive belay device with reliable blocking of the climbing rope.

The first generation of the Smart belay device was successfully launched in 2009.

Built on the experience the new Smart 2.0 offers significantly improved braking effectiveness as well as optimized geometry and intuitive handling.

The newly developed brake insert blocks the rope in the event of a fall.

The belaying action of the Smart 2.0 is the same as the previous model and is therefore tailored to the belayer´s reflex movements.

My choice

2023/02/01

Pablo

Since I started climbing, Mammut's Smart 2 was my choice for a simple reason: you can perfectly see how the rope goes and how the braking system is activated (unlike the GriGri, which you cover and it seems to do a bit of " Magic"). This has given me more security than any other braking system. It is also light, resistant and is at a more or less adjusted price. No but what to put.

Prou!

A self-locking insurer provides a lot more security than a standard insurer, and it is very flexible to use. An excellent product, for a very reasonable price.

Very good descender - used by children in class and by mom

Very good insurance system. Provides a good feeling of security and more fluidity for lead belaying.

Simple device

2023/09/06

Carlos

It is a product that you can easily notice the way the assisted locking works. The procedure to deliver rope quickly for devices with passive belay seems to me the safest so far compared to cam devices or tubulars without assisted brake for sport climbing. On the other hand, I have tried it with new and old strings. With new strings it is wonderful, while with slightly dirty strings it gets stuck a lot, more than devices like the grigri or the lifesaver. And it is a device that is not seen much in Mexico, so it causes a bit of skepticism the first time your climber sees it. It's just a device to belay a pitch, to belay redirected on a multi-pitch you'll need another device, or to rappel you'll need another.
