HMS carabiner with safety mechanism to prevent accidental lateral loading. The new and improved version of our popular safety carabiner impresses with an improved construction, higher breaking load and reduced weight. It still offers the same double safety and easy handling. The screw locking can be operated only when the safety gate is open. Accidental opening is excluded, as well as unintentional twisting of the carabiner in the belay loop of the climbing harness. This prevents dangerous lateral loading. Mammut recommends use of the Smart HMS 2.0 carabiner for the Smart 2.0 belay device.

This carabiner is highly specific, but does excellently with everything a belaying carabiner needs. It is robust and looks like it will last a long time. In addition, its finish feels excellent and cuts a few grams from a very thick carabiner. The intermediate barrier prevents the carabiner from tipping over. Its bonus is how easy it is to operate the system and how clearly it shows how the carabiner was correctly positioned and closed. Other carabiner systems with this barrier are difficult to install or remove, but not with this one. Meanwhile, the screwlock is a good screwlock, I prefer it for the ease of use with one hand.
