Raymarine introduces the next generation of Quantum 2 marine radars, featuring CHIRP pulse compression for improved situational awareness at both long and extremely short ranges.

Using advanced Doppler processing, the system instantly highlights moving radar contacts and color-codes them to individually indicate whether they are approaching or receding objects. Improved collision avoidance:
- The Quantum 2 radar´s MARPA system provides an easy way to track dangerous objects. Raymarine MARPA object tracking uses the same technology trusted by the U.S. Coast Guard.

How doppler radar works:
- Microwave energy is reflected off the distant object, just as with conventional radar.
- Moving objects return echoes whose frequencies are shifted up or down relative to the original transmission.
- For approaching objects, the frequency increases, since the front part of the returned echoes is received more frequently as the distance to the object decreases.
- For objects that move away, the frequency decreases, since the returned echoes become more distant in time as the distance from the object increases.
Doppler radars are designed to detect these tiny changes in wave frequency and use them to classify moving radar objects.

Object processing with doppler:
- Doppler radar is specifically tuned to detect changes in the frequency of the radar echo returned by moving objects versus objects at rest.
- The Quantum 2 then uses special color codes to mark moving objects to indicate whether they are moving closer or further away.
- Approaching objects are marked in red.
- Objects that are moving away are marked in green.
- Color-coding objects makes it easier to differentiate traffic from other fixed objects, such as navigational aids or stationary or anchored vessels.
- The Quantum 2 radar also includes fully automatic object detection and tracking. Set up custom safety or alert zones and be informed of new radar contacts entering the area. Quantum 2 can automatically begin tracking contacts, calculating their heading, speed, closest approach point, and much more. The system will alert you when a dangerous object is identified with audible alerts and easy-to-understand on-screen graphics.
