I recently bought the Vercelli Enygma Centinel Surfcasting Rod and I’m very satisfied with it. The rod feels strong and well-built, with a lightweight carbon blank and quality Fuji guides. The Enugma Centinel is the third Vercelli rod I have bought. I wanted a rod with optimum casting weight 5oz + bait capable of fishing in strong tides and big surf where hybrid tips are too sensitive to wave action. This rod has a tubular tip and plenty of backbone but not too stiff, so it loads up well when casting.

Suitable for rough ground I use my central t in the upper Bristol Channel and the rock marks on the north wales coastline. Will cast 7oz plus bait with ease. If you a similar food then the vercelli atlas is a good alternative.

Which year manufacture for t-centinel rod? Is there any test for backbone before delivery?

Vercelli Enygma Centinel has been in manufacture from 2016 (or earlier) to 2025. As far as I am aware, my Centinel rod was not tested before delivery. This rod has a hollow carbon fibre tip - a continuous blank with no insert. I estimated the stiffness based on casting weight 100-300g and optimum weight 155g. I have other Vercelli rods so I had some idea of stiffness compared to my other rods.
