What our customers are saying about Shimano ES600 SPD pedals

Shimano SPD Ultegra pedals offer excellent performance, quality, and design for road bikes. These lightweight, easy-to-clip-in pedals feature a wider platform for increased foot contact and are ideal for using MTB SPD shoes on a road bike, offering convenience and compatibility. While some note the single-sided entry requires adjustment, their quality construction and reliable Shimano performance make them a highly recommended choice for cyclists seeking efficient and comfortable road biking experiences

Very safe pedals

2026/03/23

Lorenzo

I was looking for this type of SPD pedal for road cycling, as they have always felt very safe and comfortable for me. This system has always been my favorite

Shimano's only SPD road pedal

2026/03/05

Luis

SPD, not SPD-SL, is the best system for road, but not enough people realize it. Shimano used to make two really good SPD road pedals, the Ultegra A600 and the A520. These have disappeared, replaced by the ES600, which doesn't have as big a platform as the previous pedals. Still, it's the best there is currently. Needs to be paired with their indoor cycling shoe, the IC500, which is perfectly fine for outdoor use.

What more can we say about Shimano pedals? They look very well made and lightweight. I've set them up for road cycling and they don't look bad at all. Shipping was fine.

Been running these for a season now on both road and gravel. Super easy to clip into, and that platform just feels solid underfoot. Clean well after muddy rides and they just keep going

Incredible

2025/12/22

Raúl

Excellent SPD pedals, they offer good cleat grip, small size but provide great comfort. I'm testing them on my road bike and they give me great power transfer similar to an SPD-SL road pedal.

Road pedals with spd mountain cleats

2025/11/19

This pedal has the structure of a road pedal but uses the typical cleats of Shimano mountain bike pedals, type SH51 or SH56. This makes it suitable for using the same shoes in both disciplines.

Perfect

2025/11/08

Ferran

Fast delivery, I already had these pedals on another bike. Best price on the market.

Excellent pedals used in gravel

2025/08/03

Pedals purchased for gravel riding. Easy to clip in and much larger contact surface than mountain bike pedals. Nice and light. Better than mountain bike pedals.

2024/11/17

Benjamin

Superb cyclo pedals with top bearings and easy to maintain, they are not the lightest but certainly the most reliable over time.

Very good pedal

2024/11/05

Chris

Used to the Keos system, I was fed up with not being able to walk with the shoes. By switching to the spd system, known in mountain biking, these pedals are perfect, the adjustment is simpler and the installation was done without problem. Moreover, the delivery was fast and clean, thank you and finally I can walk next to my bike when it is useful

I love these pedals which allow you to keep mountain bike shoes so you can walk

They do their duty

2024/04/13

Andrea

Good quality product. Positive quality/price ratio. I haven't used it much yet to express an opinion on the performances, however I don't think they are as extraordinary compared to the MTB/GRAVEL pedals that I previously mounted on my road bike.

Good product

2024/03/27

Josep Maria

Excellent pedals, and very good service

Excellent spd pedals

2024/03/21

Mario

They are an excellent choice for those like me who have decided to use MTB shoes also on a racing bike

Lightest pedals but you need to get used to it

2024/03/20

RIcardo

These are some of the lightest pedals produced by Shimano. Even lighter than the XTRs. If you are used to one-side entry pedals, get these. They offer all the advantages of MTB pedals on a road platform. They perform great with mud, not making you struggle to clip in, and are pretty good to adjust. A great upside is that they are easy to service. So you can keep it forever

Good

Excellent, very good product

2023/10/03

Samuel

I had the same ones on my road bike and as I was delighted with them, I took the same ones for my mountain bike. Nothing to say about ergonomics and comfort. They are light, easy to adjust and very effective, and shimano has nothing to prove, it's top notch. I recommend them.

Good grip

2023/09/09

Miguel

easy to adjust and good sensations

Good versatile pedals

2023/08/20

Jiri

Good option for road and light gravel riding. Only downside is single sided entry compare to most gravel/ MTB pedals. Not a deal breaker as they are very light.

Perfect pedal for road

2023/07/27

Marko

If you don't get into the SPD-SL fanboy wagon, you can clearly see this is the perfect pedal for road bikes: light, sleek, and you can walk like a human when you get off the bike to crab a water from the road side store.

2023/07/04

The truth is that delighted. I can wear the MTB shoes on gravel and road without any problem and so when I get off the bike it is not uncomfortable for me to walk with the MTB shoes as it was with the road ones

Spd for road

2023/06/08

Manuel

Good pedals for those who want to continue using spd on the road. It is not too complicated to fit, anyway on the road it is not necessary to fit and undock many times. I had to buy an 8m Allen wrench to install them.

Perfect

Good value for money, great option if you want to take advantage of your MTB shoes on the road bike

Good pedals!!!

Good product to walk with gravel. To put a hit on it, there are times that it is difficult to engage but well, nothing special. So you can walk with both Road and mtd shoes with spd grip.

For the price you get a good pedal that fits SPD shoes on a road bike look. The anodizing is very thin and they scuff quite easily.

Good option for the road

2021/08/30

Rui Castro

My goal was to use a pedal that allows MTB SPD shoes on the road. With the lightness they have and the extra support they offer at the base of the foot, this was undoubtedly the right option.

Excellent value for money. Shimano never denies ..... They weigh exactly as stated, or 280 grams

Spd road pedals

2020/10/06

Mikyrox

Coupled with the mavic boa spd shoes they have nothing to envy to any road pedal. Lightness in the first place. The only flaws the gray color is ruined immediately and the pedals are not positioned comfortably when they are to be hung up. But these are minor flaws compared to Shimano's super reliability! Excellent and recommended. .

Feel good

2020/09/26

H.Y

The structure is good and the pedal feels good. It is also lighter and lighter than general SPDs.

Shimano is 600

2020/09/21

Just screwed them on. Good quality, light, thought to ride the racing bike. They are one-sided, but will probably work well on the road bike.

Have been using the PD ES versions until a bottom bracket change gave an opportunity to replace to these. Look good so far, single side is okay, and you just need to get used to getting them positioned to get a quick clip in.

The quality was cheap, Shimano. There is no problem arriving in Japan. Correspondence is good

Successful

2019/09/15

Jeroni

Good functioning, but if you are accustomed to mountain pedals, it is hard to get used to just stamping on one side. The difference in weights with some XT is small and you have two faces. But with the wider platform you also have more contact surface

Lightweight and economical SPD pedals

2019/09/07

Jiffy James

Excellent buy at a great price. This time the delivery took a bit long, but it was worth the wait. The Shimano ES600 SPD Ultegra pedals are lightweight and easy to clip into. Great product.

The Shimano ES600 pedals are ideal for this rider due to their efficient single-sided SPD clipless system, which enhances power transfer and stability. The adjustable entry and release tension allows for a customized connection, while the lightweight aluminum body supports performance goals across road and gravel cycling.

The Quality-Driven

This individual uses their bike regularly for commuting or fitness and values reliability and longevity in their components. They prefer low-maintenance parts from trusted brands that can withstand daily use in various conditions.

With a durable chromoly steel spindle and a sealed bearing mechanism, these Shimano pedals are built for longevity and require minimal upkeep. The robust construction ensures consistent performance for daily rides, making them a dependable choice for the long term.

The Gravel Rider

These pedals are explicitly intended for gravel cycling, among other uses. The SPD system provides excellent stability and a secure connection, which is crucial on varied terrain. Competitive features

When choosing the right pedals, cyclists often weigh factors like system compatibility, intended use, and performance features. The Shimano ES600 SPD pedals are designed for road, gravel, and fitness cycling, offering a blend of efficiency and user-friendly features. This analysis compares them against other pedals in a similar category to help you make an informed decision.

Where it excels

The Shimano ES600 stands out with its single-sided SPD system, which is engineered for efficient power transfer and stability, a key feature for performance-oriented cyclists. Versatility is a strong point; these pedals are explicitly suited for a range of disciplines including road, gravel, and fitness cycling, making them a flexible option for multi-discipline riders. Adjustable entry and release tension allows riders to customize the feel of clipping in and out, enhancing confidence and security for both new and experienced users of clipless systems.

Consider alternatives if...

While the ES600 features a single-sided entry design, cyclists who prefer the convenience of dual-sided entry or the large, stable surface of a platform pedal might find other models more suitable for their needs.

Verdict

The Shimano ES600 SPD pedals are a strong choice for cyclists seeking a reliable, high-performance clipless system for road, gravel, or fitness applications. Their efficient power transfer and adjustable tension cater well to users and competitive riders. However, those who prioritize dual-sided entry or a simple platform design may want to explore other options.
