Features of WTB Rocket Cromoly

Product description of WTB Rocket Cromoly saddle

Description summary

The Rocket is an incredibly versatile saddle. From a two minute hair-raising downhill to a 2700 mile individual time trial, this saddle is the top choice for those pushing the sport.

Cromoly rails:
- Increased strength and less weight make cromoly steel a noticeable upgrade over traditional steel rails. The perfect choice for bikepackers.

Microfiber cover:
- Found on most WTB saddles, our Microfiber cover closely replicates the look and feel of a leather cover. The supple nature of the Microfiber Cover allows the foam to support the sit bones without interfering with its resiliency.

Flex-Tuned shell:
- The Flex-Tuned shell boasts an exceptional mix of comfortable flex and firm efficiency. Not as supple as the Soft-Shell and not as stiff as the Carbon Composite Shell, Flex-Tuned saddles provide the happy medium that is ideal for most enthusiasts.

DNA padding:
- Found on all of our high-end saddles, this dense padding dramatically reduces the weight of the saddle. DNA padding also tends to hold its shape better over long rides and the lifetime of the saddle, which is important for long-term comfort.

Features:

- Narrow nose and midsection means no chafing during long pedaling sessions.
- Its thick padding and swooped tail allows riders to lock in their ideal position for power and comfort.

Specifications:

- Rail: cromoly
- Weight: +- 316 g

I tried numerous saddles in the last 15 years. This is the best I have ever had. I tested 6 different wtb, 2 smp, 1 ergon and a few others.. the rocked in this version (not rocket fusion) is the best that I had. From 30 minutes to 4 hour xc rides.

Ideal buyer profiles

The Comfort-Seeking Cyclist

This rider prioritizes comfort on long rides, whether on mountain trails or paved roads. They often experience discomfort or chafing with other saddles and are looking for a solution that allows them to pedal for hours without issue.

The WTB Rocket saddle is an excellent choice for this rider. It features thick DNA padding that holds its shape over long distances, a narrow nose and midsection designed to prevent chafing, and a Flex-Tuned shell that provides a balance of comfortable flex and firm efficiency.

The Rider

This cyclist is focused on maximizing their power output and maintaining control. They need a saddle that allows them to lock into an optimal, aggressive riding position for both climbing and sprinting, across MTB and road disciplines.

With its swooped tail and thick padding, the Rocket saddle allows riders to lock in their ideal position for both power and comfort. The firm efficiency of the Flex-Tuned shell and the strength of the cromoly rails support aggressive riding, making it suitable for both MTB and road cycling.

The Value-Hunting Upgrader

This individual is looking to upgrade their stock saddle to a component that offers a significant improvement in comfort and durability without a top-tier price tag. They want a reliable, well-designed product from a reputable brand that will last.

Our WTB Rocket saddle delivers on these priorities. The strong cromoly rails and durable synthetic cover offer longevity, while features like the DNA padding and Flex-Tuned shell provide a tangible upgrade in ride quality for both road and mountain biking.

Competitive features

When selecting a new bicycle saddle, it's crucial to compare the features that contribute to comfort, performance, and durability. Here, we analyze the WTB Rocket Cromoly Saddle against several alternatives, including other WTB models like the Koda and Silverado, as well as saddles from Selle Royal and P&P. Our focus is on the materials and design philosophy that set each option apart.

Where it excels

Versatility: The Rocket is described as an incredibly versatile saddle, suitable for a wide range of cycling disciplines from short, intense downhill runs to long-distance endurance events. This makes it a strong all-around choice. Balanced Performance: It features a Flex-Tuned shell, which WTB positions as a 'happy medium' between the suppleness needed for comfort and the stiffness required for efficient power transfer. This balance is ideal for most cycling users. Material Quality: With strong, relatively lightweight cromoly rails, a durable Microfiber cover, and high-end, weight-reducing DNA padding, the Rocket incorporates materials typically found on more premium saddles.

Consider alternatives if...

Specific Use Cases: While the Rocket is a versatile 'jack-of-all-trades', cyclists with highly specific needs might look elsewhere. For example, a competitive racer might seek an even stiffer, lighter carbon-railed saddle, while a casual city rider might prefer a wider, more cushioned model than the performance-oriented Rocket. Budget Constraints: As a high-end saddle featuring DNA padding and a Flex-Tuned shell, the Rocket is positioned for users. Budget-conscious shoppers looking for basic functionality might find more suitable options among saddles with standard steel rails and less advanced padding.

Verdict

The WTB Rocket Cromoly Saddle stands out as a high-quality, versatile option for dedicated cyclists. Its blend of a Flex-Tuned shell, durable cromoly rails, and lightweight DNA padding provides a balanced mix of comfort and performance that suits a variety of riding styles. It's a strong contender for anyone from bikepackers to endurance riders who need a reliable, all-around performance saddle.
