Product description of ABUS WingBack helmet

Description summary

Experience minimalist style and sophisticated function with the ABUS WingBack road helmet. Weighing just 250g, its lightweight in-mould design packs in performance technology. Stay cool with Forced Air Cooling, which uses 17 vents and deep channels to optimize airflow. The flutter-free FlowStraps are aerodynamic and skin-friendly, while the Zoom Ace system allows for quick, precise adjustment and is fully ponytail-compatible. Sporty, modern, and effortlessly functional, the WingBack is ready for any ride

The WingBack road helmet has a simple, laid-back style. It is sporty, modern and quickly ready for use.

The WingBack from our road helmet family has a minimalist design – and yet it hides some sophisticated functions under its winged design, including technologies from the performance helmets. The WingBack emphasises its sporty character with deep ventilation channels, thin struts and a separation edge at the rear. The combination of polycarbonate (PC) and polystyrene (EPS) gives it a very light appearance, with a weight of just 250 g. The flutter-free FlowStraps webbing does not need a strap distributor.

With Zoom Ace, the helmet can be quickly adjusted to individual head sizes and there is also room for a ponytail. So: helmet on, and a tour in the style of fixie riders can begin.

Features:

- Excellent ventilation provided by 10 air inlets and 7 air outlets
- Forced Air Cooling Technology combines front and rear vents with deep channels for a cool head – plus air scoop (top) for the Venturi effect
- FlowStraps: aerodynamic, flutter-free and skin-friendly webbing
- In-mould design for a permanent bond between the outer shell and the shock-absorbing helmet material (EPS)
- Zoom Ace: finely adjustable, height-adjustable adjustment system with easy-grip adjustment wheel for individual fit
- Helmet fits well on ponytail wearers – height-adjustable adjustment system at the back of the head creates space for ponytails
- Half-ring: plastic ring half enclosing the head and connected to the adjustment system – enables size adjustment

The Abus Wingback meets the EN 1078 safety certification, providing essential peace of mind. Its Zoom Ace adjustment system allows for a finely tuned, height-adjustable fit, ensuring the helmet stays comfortably and securely in place during road and city rides.

The Road Cyclist

This cyclist is focused on performance during their road bike sessions. They look for gear that is aerodynamic, well-ventilated, and doesn't compromise on fit, allowing them to concentrate on their speed and endurance.

This helmet's aerodynamic design and Forced Air Cooling Technology with 10 vents cater directly to the needs of performance riders. The combination helps reduce drag and maintain comfort during intense rides, while the Zoom Ace system ensures a personalized, stable fit.

The Tech-Users Urban Rider

This rider appreciates thoughtful design and innovative features in their cycling gear. They seek a helmet that incorporates modern technology for cooling and fit, enhancing their overall riding experience in the city.

Competitive features

When choosing a road helmet, key factors like ventilation, fit, and safety technology are crucial. The Abus Wingback Helmet offers a blend of minimalist design and functional features. We've analyzed how it stacks up against competitors like the Giro Isode II Mips, Giant Rev Comp Mips, and others to help you make an informed decision.

Where it excels

The Abus Wingback Helmet stands out with its sophisticated cooling system. It features Forced Air Cooling technology with 17 vents and deep internal channels, designed to optimize airflow and keep you comfortable on any ride. For riders who value a precise and accommodating fit, the Wingback includes the Zoom Ace adjustment system. This feature allows for quick, on-the-fly adjustments and is specifically designed to be ponytail-compatible, a detail not always present in competitor models. With its minimalist, modern aesthetic and flutter-free FlowStraps, the Wingback appeals to fashion-forward cyclists who want a helmet that is both functional and stylish without compromising on a clean, sporty look.

Consider alternatives if...

While the Abus Wingback provides a strong foundation of safety with its in-mould construction, it does not feature MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). Cyclists prioritizing this specific rotational impact technology might consider alternatives like the Giro Isode II Mips or the Giant Rev Comp Mips, which include this feature.

Verdict

The Abus Wingback is an excellent choice for cyclists seeking a stylish, comfortable, and well-ventilated helmet for everyday road riding. Its Forced Air Cooling and ponytail-compatible Zoom Ace fit system provide tangible benefits for comfort and usability. However, for riders who consider MIPS technology a non-negotiable safety feature, exploring MIPS-equipped competitors would be a better path.
