POC Amidal MIPS Helmet

Discover the pinnacle of road and gravel cycling protection with the POC Amidal MIPS Helmet, a masterclass in safety, aerodynamics, and all-day comfort. Engineered for the discerning adult cyclist who demands performance without compromise, the Amidal is your trusted partner for every ride, from the daily commute to epic weekend adventures. Its design philosophy balances a sleek aesthetic with cutting-edge protective technology, making it an essential piece of gear for both road cycling purists and adventurous gravel cycling enthusiasts.

The helmet´s profile is meticulously crafted for aerodynamic efficiency. A slim, scaled-down silhouette gives the Amidal a streamlined appearance, ensuring you´ll always feel fast in the pack. This optimized shape not only reduces drag when you´re pushing the pace but also contributes to a lightweight, unobtrusive feel, allowing you to focus entirely on the road or trail ahead.

At the core of the Amidal´s design is an unwavering commitment to safety. It features the renowned Mips (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) Integra, the latest and most seamlessly integrated technology from the brain protection specialists. This system is engineered to enhance rotational impact protection, a critical factor in mitigating certain types of crash forces. Complementing this, reinforced zones placed at the rear of this road cycling helmet enhance crash protection and give a distinct, easily distinguishable style. This robust construction provides the confidence you need to push your limits, knowing you are protected by advanced safety features.

Comfort on long rides is paramount, and the Amidal MIPS excels in this regard. A fully adjustable 360° fit system allows you to dial in a secure and perfectly personalized fit with minimal effort. This ensures the helmet stays comfortably in place without creating pressure points. Internally, optimized ventilation channels are strategically placed to maximize airflow, drawing cool air in from the front and exhausting warm, moist air out the back. This superior cooling effect keeps you comfortable and focused, even during intense climbs on hot days. For added convenience, the helmet includes a practical eyewear garage, allowing you to securely stow your sunglasses mid-ride.

Visibility is a key component of on-road safety. The Amidal addresses this with a brilliant, purpose-built solution. A light produced by Knog specially for this helmet makes sure you´ll always be seen. This seamlessly integrated lighting option enhances your presence in traffic and low-light conditions, providing an essential layer of active safety that makes you more conspicuous to others.

Competitive features

When evaluating the Poc Amidal Mips Helmet, we're looking at a product designed for road and gravel cyclists who prioritize a blend of aerodynamics, safety, and comfort. It incorporates key features like Mips Air Node for rotational impact protection, a lightweight EPS liner, and a 360° fit system. We'll compare it against other helmets in our collection, including several from POC's own Ventral Air series, to help you determine the best fit for your cycling needs.

Where it excels

The Poc Amidal Mips Helmet excels in providing a streamlined, aerodynamic profile, confirmed by CFD testing, which is a key decision factor for performance-oriented cyclists. It integrates modern safety technology, specifically Mips Air Node, to offer advanced rotational impact protection, a critical feature for avid riders. The design thoughtfully includes optimized internal air channeling for cooling and the option for rear light integration, enhancing both comfort and visibility for road and gravel use.

Consider alternatives if...

While the Amidal offers a sleek design, cyclists who prioritize maximum ventilation above all else might want to explore alternatives like the Poc Ventral Air Mips, which is specifically named for its airflow capabilities. For riders with a wider head shape, the Poc Ventral Air is also available in a 'Wide Fit' version, offering a more tailored fit that the standard Amidal may not provide. The Abus Pedelec 2.0 Ace is another alternative to consider, often featuring integrated lights and rain hoods, which may appeal to commuters or those riding in varied weather conditions.

Verdict

The Poc Amidal Mips Helmet is an excellent choice for dedicated road and gravel cyclists seeking a helmet that balances aerodynamic performance with advanced Mips protection. Its streamlined design, adjustable fit, and cooling channels make it a strong contender for long rides and competitive events. While it provides a great all-around package, riders with very specific needs, such as maximum ventilation or a wide-fit profile, may find other models like the Poc Ventral Air series to be a more specialized solution.
