You probably mean a brazed-on mount, which means soldered. This refers to the direct mounting of the derailleur to the road bike frame. So, the product description is correct. I installed my derailleur with a clamp mount, as there´s no mount on the frame.

I have bought a SHIMANO Altus M311 crankset Black 170 mm/48/38/28 Ref: 12546234, from bikeinn and the front derailleur won't clear the 48t ring, the derailleur is a fixed mount on my Cannondale trail, is there a derailleur that will directly replace the existing one.

I can only answer the question indirectly. I have installed the front derailleur on my racing bike (Campagnolo) (54/38) and it works without any problems. Therefore, I assume that only two pinions can be shifted. The packaging should be able to provide information on this.
