Replace threaded cassette

2025/10/20

Andres

Hi, I´d like to replace the 6-speed threaded cassette with a freewheel to make it single-speed. Which axle do you recommend? Thanks.

Answer of Alberto

Hello! You should choose the 9.5 x 142 mm axle. Because: 1. Width (142 mm): This is the most critical measurement. A bike frame designed for a 6-speed freewheel hub (an older standard) is almost always 135 mm or 130 mm wide at the rear. However, the modern standard for single-speed or derailleur bikes is 142 mm. Your frame is most likely 135 mm wide, and 135 mm frames are compatible with 142 mm hubs because the aluminum or carbon dropouts usually have enough flex to splay that extra 7 mm (3.5 mm per side). This is the most common conversion. 2. Diameter (9.5 mm): This is the standard diameter for rear hub axles on most modern bikes, including single-speed setups. It´s sturdy and standard, so it´ll be compatible with your frame and any freewheels you find on the market. Double-check your measurements.

Length from 135

Answer of JOSE

You don´t have to change the axle; the old one is worth it. If you still need to change it, it´s worth it. You don´t need to replace the axle; the old one will work fine. If you ever need to replace it, this one will work fine. https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/es/bonin-eje-del-buje-trasero-7-8s/138432929/p

Answer of german

Hi, the axle is 6-speed to 1-speed, as long as it´s a threaded cassette. A freewheel cassette isn´t a threaded cassette. Regards.

Rear axle size

2022/07/24

JOSÉ LUIS

Hello. The hollow quick release rear axle that I want to replace with a solid one is about 170mm long and the diameter is 9 or 10mm (the gauge I used is not very exact, axle measured without disassembling). From your Gurpil Rear Complete Axle offer, the 12x178mm size would correspond, but the diameter of 12 is larger than the one I want to replace. Will it fit or will it not fit in the hub?

Answer of JONNI

Good afternoon, the most advisable thing is to change a piece of the same measurements, it would be best to lower the axis and measure the diameter and length accurately. All the best

still needing clear precision

Hello. Jonni answered my previous question : " the correct measurement for your bike would be .9X 142mm". Thanks to Jonni. However, I'm not sure of Jonni's answer 1/ Jonni, did you mean 0.9 x 142mm ? or 9.5 x 142mm ? 2/ Since the Over Locknut distance (OLD, distance between locknut of right side and locknut of left side) is 135mm, then a total length of 142mm is too short for a Full Axle ! So I deduct that this product must be a Hollow Axle which must be used with a Quick Release Skewer ; this contracdicts the Product description "Rear Axle Full" Could Jonni or TradeInn Bike-expert confirm to me : - is this axle a Hollow axle or a Full axle ? - for my ordinary bike MTB of year 2005 with OLD 135mm, the dimension to be chosen from {12x178mm 14x142mm 9.5x142mm} is really 9.5x142mm without any risk of error Thank you for your kind help and taking time to read my question. Best regards.

Answer of Elisardo

This axle is solid, the kind used on old bikes. Therefore, it is fixed with nuts. I have used it for an "invention"

Gurpil Rear hub axle

which axle size for ordinary MTB ?

2022/07/14

Hello Team Tradeinn Bikeinn. I need a Rear Axle for an ordinary (year 2005) Mountain Bike rear wheel. On this bike, the distance measured between Rear's Left-hand drop-out, and Rear's Right-hand drop-out, is 135mm. What size should I choose from your offer which has 12 x 178mm ; 14 x 142mm ; 9,5 x 142mm ? Thank you !

Answer of JONNI

Good morning, the correct measurement for your bike would be .9X 142mm. All the best
