I´m sure it would work for the rear as well, since it can be used with a certain amount of clearance (they don´t require an exact measurement) and there is hardly any difference between 2.5 and 2.6. I don´t understand your question, the wheels, no matter what size they are, never touch the ground, the important thing is that they fit well into the support. I have 2, one for a 29 wheel and another for a 27.5 wheel and in both widths of 2.6, 2.5, 2.4 and 2.35 the bicycles fit perfectly and do not move at all.
