With Mahle E-Shifters, you can expand your E-Bike system with two flexible handlebar control elements. Can the e-shifters be connected yourself?

Hello, I am considering purchasing a set of Mahle Smartbike Systems X20/X35 Electronic switch; I have a Merida e-silex with Mahle X20 system. I can certainly manage to mount the switches on the handlebars, but I can´t find anywhere where the cable should be connected to or in the bicycle. Can I do this myself or does it have to be done by a bicycle mechanic? Thanks for your answer! Erik
