I bought tape of exactly the same width as the internal size of the rim. Because of the canal running through the centre of the rim (majority of rims) applied tape gives small spaces betwen rim internal walls. I putted two layers of tape and have no problem at all with tyre holding the pleasure. In my opinion if the tape will be 2-3mm wider you can have a problem with wrinkling of the tape what may be the cause of the tyer to loose preasure. My recomendation is to purchase 19mm tape for 19mm internal size rim, watch the Muc-Off instruction video and do it well, take your time and don't rush it. One roll of tape is enough for set of wheels with two layers each.

Yes, 17mm wide tape should be perfect for rims with an internal width of 17mm. I can only add that Muc-Off tapes are very strong and of good quality.

generally the tape must be a few mm wider than the channel. So if the channel is 30mm wide the tape will be 35mm.
