I bought a trail angel a while ago. The wheel hangs in the air as in the picture, but not very high. In the forest, high bumps and high roots could be a problem with mountain biking. The attachment on the parent bike consists of two metal plates with a dent in which the seat post fits and is pressed together with bolts. A carbon seat post can splinter, especially due to rotational forces. For that reason, I would advise using an aluminum/iron seat post. The attachment of the child´s bike consists of a slightly pre-formed iron plate and two rounded steel bolts, such as with a steel wire clamp. These are attached to the head tube. Especially with smaller bikes, you can expect some minor paint damage. For the attachment at the axle of the front wheel of the child´s bike, I also manufactured suitable nuts to remain firmly in the construction. (This was not complicated. I do not know whether these would also be available as standard) In practice, you probably usually leave the attachment on both the parent´s bike and the child´s bike. You could even leave the whole construction on the parent bike. We have never done this actually.You get some cardboard to put between the iron plates and the bicycles. I was surprised that this was not a rubber protection. Attaching the children´s bicycle to the construction also takes some time, I think the manufacturer could have come up with some smarter constructions for this, e.g. by using handles to clamp the bicycle. The price and the small construction are an advantage compared to other similar constructions. Furthermore, the children´s bicycle is attached stably enough in our opinion and we have no worries about safety. Advantages: * Compact & light construction * Price * Stable enough * The construction is sturdy enough for off-road, but with tree roots etc. the front wheel of the children´s bicycle could touch the ground. Disadvantages: * Mounting plates can cause some (paint) damage * Attaching the children´s bicycle takes some time due to multiple nut connections and because the nuts have to be loosened a lot. * You need suitable nuts on the axle of the children´s bicycle (which were not included or did not fit us -- I don´t remember).

Ik heb een tijd geleden zo'n trail angel gekocht. Het wiel hangt zoals op de afbeelding in de lucht, maar niet heel hoog. In het bos zouden hoge hobbels, hoge wortels een probleem kunnen vormen met het mountainbiken. De bevestiging op de ouderfiets bestaan uit twee metalen plaatjes met een deuk waar de zadelpen in valt en wordt met bouten bij elkaar gedrukt. Een carbonzadelpen zal met name door rotatiekrachten kunnen gaan splinteren. Om die reden zou ik adviseren om een aluminium/ ijzeren zadelpen te gebruiken. De bevestiging van de kinderfiets bestaat uit een enigszins voorgevormd ijzeren plaatje en twee geronde stalen bouten zoals bij een staaldraadklem. Deze worden op de balhoofdbuis bevestigd. Zeker bij kleinere fietsjes kan je er op wat lichte lakschade rekenen. Voor de bevestiging bij de as van het voorwiel van de kinderfiets heb ik nog geschikte moeren gefabriceerd om stevig in de constructie te blijven zitten. (Dit was niet ingewikkeld. Ik weet niet of deze ook standaard te koop zouden zijn) Zowel de bevestiging op de ouderfiets als op de kinderfiets laat je in praktijk waarschijnlijk meestal zitten. Je zou zelfs de hele constructie kunnen laten zitten op de ouderfiets. Dit hebben wij eigenlijk nog nooit gedaan. Je krijgt wat kartonnetje om tussen de ijzerenplaatjes en de fietsen te doen. Ik verbaasde mij erover dat dit niet een rubberen bescherming betrof. De bevestiging van de kinderfiets aan de constructie kost daarbij ook wat tijd, ik denk dat de fabrikant daar ook wel wat slimmere constructies voor had kunnen bedenken, bv door handels te gebruiken om de fiets te klemmen. De prijs, en de kleine constructie zijn dan weer een voordeel tov andere vergelijkbare constructies. Verder zit het kinderfietsje wat ons betreft stabiel genoeg bevestigd en hebben we geen zorgen over de veiligheid. Voordelen: * Compacte & lichte constructie * Prijs * Stabiel genoeg * De constructie is stevig genoeg voor offroad, maar bij boomwortels etc zou het voorwiel van de kinderfiets de grond kunnen aantikken. Nadelen: * Bevestigingsplaatjes kunnen wat (lak)schade geven * Bevestiging van het kinderfietsje kost wat tijd door meerdere moerverbindingen en omdat de moeren ver losgedraaid moeten worden. * Je hebt geschikte moeren nodig op de as van het kinderfietsje (die niet meegeleverd werden of bij ons niet paste -- weet ik niet meer).
