Does it have to be attached to the luggage tray?

Hi, I have a similar battery that has gone bad. Have a bakfiets bike and the battery is fixed upright on the box of the bike. Can this battery also be fixed upright or must it lie on the luggage tray? It appears to be the exact same battery and has the same product number. I just want to double check since it says it´s meant for the luggage tray. Can I possibly return it if it turns out not to fit?
