I have read different opinions regarding the usefulness and capacity of the bottle in mtb and I will try to help clarify them. This is what I put in without any effort: 1. Normal 29 "tube. Not GEL. 2. 2 disassemblers and light tool for punctures + 1 bottle 25 ml CO2 + adapter. There would be more space than enough for keys and gels but I carry all of that in the back pockets of my jersey. I find it impossible to fit a conventional pump and yes, it may stain something else due to being lower than the saddle bag but the saddle bag also usually gets dust stained, gosh. The zipper works perfectly. At least on mine. Aesthetically, I don't like the Italian flag showing so much. It's too flashy. I have switched to the 950 ml ELITE water bottle and I no longer use my saddle bag. I think the bike looks more beautiful. An unbeatable quality / price item.

How water resistant is the case and the zipper?

It is not 100% waterproof but in my experience. I live in the north of Spain and I go out on the road in winter, it has not been a problem and when I have had to use the tools they were not wet or damp. Now, groupmates with the same drum have had problems with a broken zipper. But so well it is true that we shoot a lot. Around 8,000 km per year.
