How to Choose Climbing Pulleys

The climbing pulley is one of the most important and advanced pieces of rock climbing gear that is used to protect the user from being pulled off the wall or mountain. Petzl, Black Diamond, Beal, Singing Rock, and Climbing Technology offer a variety of climbing pulleys that you can pick according to your needs.
To make your outdoor excursion more enjoyable, safer, and comfortable, you have few Climbing pulley options to choose from. There are generally two types of climbing pulleys; one that is simple and the other one is auto locking.

1. Simple Climbing pulleys

They are cheap, simple and light. For a basic climbing experience, simple pulleys are a perfect choice.

2. Auto locking Climbing pulleys

In an auto locking Climbing pulley, the pulley will bite the rope automatically when weighted. It is suitable for simul climbing and hauling. Instead of purchasing several simple pulleys, you can customize the auto locking pulley according to your hauling needs. You can choose a mini pulley to handle smaller loads. They are compact, light, and easy to use. For larger loads, you can choose a large auto locking pulley that comes with an additional hole at the bottom. Before using it, attach a carabiner to the pulley to keep it from moving.
