When we set out to design a mat that was better than what was already available, we ultimately went back to why we carry a sleeping mat into the wild in the first place — to give us a better night’s sleep. ‘Better’ is of course a very subjective ambition and while we could have made the lightest, or the most compact mat ever designed, we’re stoked to present what we consider to be the most comfortable sleeping mattresses available. Larger air pockets are created by using many looped TPU baffles which connect the top and bottom fabric layers with our Air Sprung Cell™ dot weld pattern. The looped baffles allow the top and bottom layers to be positioned further apart creating larger pockets of air when inflated that require less fabric overall. The air sprung cells are the core technology of our Sleeping Mat range, and are the reason why you will sleep better on a Sea to Summit Sleeping Mat.
Instead of the typical baffled construction, Sea to Summit sleeping mats are constructed using a dot-weld pattern to create a high surface-area matrix of interconnected chambers called Air Sprung Cells. Air Sprung Cells operate in the same way as a pocket spring mattress, as each cell deforms independently the mattress conforms to your body shape which feels softer and more comfortable with more body contact area and even dispersion of pressure.
Larger air pockets are created by using many TPU loops that connect the top and bottom fabric layers with our Air Sprung Cell dot weld pattern. The TPU loops allow the top and bottom layers to be positioned further apart creating larger pockets of air when inflated that require less fabric overall.
Our TPU lamination is applied through a process unique to the medical and aeronautical industries. Extrusion lamination is more durable, consistent and enables us to use our own TPU recipe. It is vastly superior to roll-to-roll lamination, which is used in most other outdoor products at present and can suffer from delamination issues. We have also introduced an anti-microbial treatment into the TPU to prevent mould or fungal growth.
To make inflation and deflation easier, Sea to Summit has developed our own, patent-pending multi-function valve.
The valve integrates an inflate port with a one-way valve to prevent air loss before you seal the valve, a rapid air dump deflate port, and a fine tune button to adjust for comfort – all in one compact, low profile unit.

ASTM F3340-18 R-values
An R-value (Resistance-value) is a metric used to rate how effectively your sleeping mat resists heat loss. It’s the only way to know how well your mat will prevent your body heat being leeched away by ground temperatures (which can be a lot colder than air temperatures).
This value can be tested in-house but at Sea to Summit our mats are independently tested at a laboratory to precisely controlled standards.
The new industry standard ASTM F3340-18 testing has now been introduced and all Sea to Summit mats released from 2020 onwards are tested to this standard.

Best choice for 3-season mat

I have bought both this version and the insulated vertion. This one is much lighter and packs to half the size of the insulated one. I strongly recommend this one and when you go for camping in very cold weather bring an extra closed foam mat for the extra insulation. The sleep on this mat is uncomparable! Best VFM in the market

Sea to Summit lives up to its reputation! A perfect mattress for side sleepers. It inflates very easily with the clever storage bag (great idea). And above all it is LIGHT. In short, perfect for itinerant hiking.

When I go tramping, I normally throw the mat in the pack - just in case I might need it. I have needed it quite a few times and it is comfortable to sleep on and easy to use.

Only had it a few days but seems very comfortable, light and small. I'm a side sleeper so the XT is a must. I would give it a 5 star review but its really expensive. But if you are have the cash its a good choice.

Easy and fast inflation system, comfortable and light (420 grams) with a repair kit and a spare valve. The sea to summit ether light xt is great for side sleepers and it is not noisy. I recommand it .

Brilliant mat. Easy and fast blow up system. Very comfortable. One slightly negative point though - they are very noisy in a hut when you move on them (but as I am asleep, I dont hear it but my wife tells me next morning...)

I bought this to replace my older, bulky sleeping mat. It mat folds up incredibly small and is lightweight, but when fully inflated, provides a plush sleeping mattress giving a great night sleep, especially since I do occasionally sleep on my side. It’s not insulated, but that’s what I wanted. I didn’t want a ‘crinkly’ mat! Good job Sea to Summit, quality gear as usual.

Very comfortable and lightweight. Small pack volume. I side sleeper and usually have issues with hip and shoulder numbness when camping, but not with the Ether Light XT! Comfort five stars, but I can bit comment on durability yet.

Very comfortable mattress. Compact and lightweight when folded. Easily inflates without effort (simply blow 7 to 8 times from a distance in the inflation bag and finish directly according to the desired softness) and deflates even more quickly.

Hello I want the Regular size (neither small nor Large) from the manufacturer it is given for weight 350 g in 183 Long x55 width x10cm. Your site does not allow you to choose the size of the product among the 3 existing ones. How to do it please?

Hello I bought the Regular. You must choose the size from the drop-down menu on the right of the site. I am 1.73m tall and weigh 62kg. It´s just my size, especially if I put the pillow on. Great quality. Easy to inflate once you get the hang of it. Nights of bivouac now much more comfortable than on my previous self-inflating ones.
