In theory, if your crankset footprint is the same (5 BCD 130 holes), it should be possible to do it. But it´s impossible to be sure, because front derailleurs can be made to work with a defined chainring gap (18 teeth for your old setup, 12 for the new one, it may not work... or it may work).

Yes, I mounted it on a Shimano 105 90s 2x8 speed. Keep in mind that the original chainrings are oval, while these are perfectly round and therefore the "shifting" will be slightly different. For me it makes no difference because I "transformed" an old racing bike into an agile city bike.

Hi, I mounted it on an old Shimano 105 from the 90s with 2 x 8 speeds without problems. The thickness of the crown is the same as the original, what changes is the shape: this new one is round while the old original is oval (personally I didn´t notice any differences in the thrust). To be careful, check the distance between the mounting holes and that there is some space to adjust the height of the derailleur.

Hi, at the limit the 38 will fit, but there is a small compromise in shifting. Anyhow I do not use combination of small chainring with the smallest 3 cogs. Acording Shimano the biggest recommended gap is 14 so you should use acording them a 39.
